Hi all, I wonder if someone can help me with an error I'm receiving in Squirrelmail. Specifically, I get the following error upon login : Preference database error (no such database). Exiting abnormally I know the database is set up, and I can access it via the mysql command line program. Is there any way to turn on debugging? Are there logs somewhere that have more information on the exact errors? Any help is greatly appreciated! Double check them - and make sure the user you are connecting as has been granted the rights to log in from the host you're accessing with. |

I turned on mySQL logging and it appears that squirrelmail isn't even trying to connect to the database?!? I can connect locally from the same machine (I have the DSN set to localhost) and I see myself login fine. I even tried a bad password to make sure that worked and it showed up in the log correctly... Any idea what else I can try here? Is there something in PHP I need to set in order to use a database? The error message is on the remote database machine - on the MySQL server logs. What I think you could be missing is the fact that you need to tell the my.database.com that the user squirreluser is allowed to connect either =66rom anywhere (%) or from some.machine.com. I believe the command, to be executed on the my.database.com, as root user, is mysql -e 'update user set Host=3D'%' where User=3D'squirreluser'';=20 OR mysql -e 'update user set Host=3D'some.domain.com' where User=3D'squirrelus= er''; To turn on logging in mysql (on the remote MySQL server), look for the startup script for mysql and change the line /PATH/TO/mysqld_safe --user=3Dmysql --datadir=3D${DB_DIR} --pid-file=3D${PI= DFILE} > /dev/null & to /PATH/TO/mysqld_safe --user=3Dmysql --log=3D/path/to/logfile --datadir=3D${= DB_DIR} --pid-file=3D${PIDFILE} > /dev/null & ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ chown mysql_user /path/to/logfile then stop, start mysql server.... All, Thanks for the tips you all gave.. It helped a lot. I did finally determine what the problem is. I was using MySQL 4.0 which apparently has new dynamic libraries. The old static libraries no longer existed. However, there were no errors I could find anywhere to point this out to me.. Still not sure how to figure all that out .. At any rate, I was poking around on the mySQL site and came across the MySQL-shared-compat RPM ... Lo and behold, this contained not only the new improved libraries, but backwards compatible libraries I could use for "older" apps... Installing that RPM fixed the problems I was having with the database.. :) So, again, thanks all! On 1.4.0, if you log in as one user, say "user1", then log out and log in as another user, "user2", all of "user1"s personal information ( name, email address etc ) is copied & saved into user2's profile. Is there a fix? Can this be confirmed as a bug? Cheers James |

Can this be confirmed as a bug? please upgrade to 1.4.1. also, you may need to upgrade you php version (didn't say what version you're using). the sure fix, however, is not to log in to two different accounts using the same browser (especially the same browser at the same time) - paul |

Is it fixed though? Its a pretty serious bug! User preferences leaking from session to session, even after logging out! Cheers James |
