We're working on a new plugin: a generic change password plugin that
provides the interface to password changing and passes the real changing
to a configurable backend (see squirrelmail-plugins a while ago). The idea
is to consolidate the code for the (now) six different change password
plugins, make translations easier and make it simpler to introduce a new
I would like to include this plugin as a packaged/official plugin.
Main reasons for this:
- the generic plugin will have a wide audience (the current plugins combined
have been downloaded nearly 50.000 times);
- strings to translate can be integrated with the rest of the squirrelmail
strings so many translations will become available. No need for a separate
text domain and such;
- any securityissues (to which this plugin is by its nature more sensitive
than others) can be addressed quickly;
- the SquirrelMail repository is a central place to store the backends
maintaned by different developers.

I think that sounds reasonable. I know you volunteered, but I'd also be
willing to help write the main plugin skeleton (since others don't seem t=
have stepped up yet). Maybe one more pass on the Plugins list and then
one of us just does it...?
