I am trying to run squirrelmail on one of my home machines and be able to access it over the internet. I have apache, squirrelmail, and cyrus-imap running on this computer. I can access and use squirrelmail from any computer on my home computer. From the internet, apache will serve static pages, but I can't use squirrelmail. The browser just gives an error that it can't connect to the site. I'm pretty sure this is just a basic configuration error. Any suggestions or links to relevant information would be appreciated. Here is more detail on my setup: My home network consists of several computers linked by a Linksys switch / DSL router. The router is also connect to a DSL modem. My local network addresses are in the range of 192.168.1.XXX. The DSL address is 66.149.8.8. The router is configured to forward all relevant ports to one computer. This computer is running apache, squirrelmail, and cyrus-imap. I am getting confused as to when to use the 66.149.8.8 address and when to use the 192.168.1.100 address (or the name shep.home as I have referenced in the hosts file) in the configuration files. Originally, I used shep.home in the apache and squirrelmail configurations, and they both worked well within my home network. But when accessing from the internet, the browser would automatically change the address from 66.149.8.8 to shep.home, which would fail. I changed the apache config file to reference 66.149.8.8 instead of shep.home, and that seems to have apache working correctly. However, squirrelmail does not seem to be working and changing the configuration file to reference 66.149.8.8 does not seem to work either. So which address do I use in the apache and squirrelmail configuration files and are there any other changes I need to make to other config file (etc/hosts,...). Thanks, Jim Shepherd |
