[SM-USERS] Read Maildirs directly from filesystem

Hi,

has anyone done any work to allow squirrelmail to read Maildirs directly 
from the filesystem as opposed to having to use IMAP? It seems to me 
this would greatly increase performance for a sizable group of email admins.
