Since version 1.2.6 SquirrelMail uses the variable
DOCUMENT_ROOT to build an absolute path in the file
functions/display_messages.php. This breaks
SquirrelMail installations that are not installed
under the web server's document root (e.g. Alias
directive for Apache).
On my server I have the following entries in
Alias /webmail "/opt/squirrelmail/"
The problem only arises when a user types in a wrong
username or password. The following error is

The DOCUMENT_ROOT variable should not be used in the
include path, since it breaks SM installations not
installed under the document root.
