#2429 You can't select INBOX as Sent folder -> why not?

No

squirrelmail-1.4.9a/include/options/folder.php line 278:

if (strtolower($option->new_value)=='inbox') {
// make sure that it is not INBOX
error_option_save(_("You can't select INBOX as Sent folder."));

Why is this? I've used such a setup (in mutt) for years, to make e-mail threads more easily readable (my sent messages are in between other's replies). Is there a technical reason why this is not allowed in squirrelmail?

    sent folder flips From/To columns. In SquirrelMail 1.4.x you can't see From column in sent folder.

    There is a variable sent folder plugin that can save your emails in INBOX.

    Thanks for the reply. Your explanation makes sense but I'm used to seeing my sent messages as "From <me>" in a mailbox, it's similar to viewing a mailing list thread in which you participate (it is especially useful in threaded/nested views only though).

    The plugin may help but still doesn't solve the problem completely (I want to save my sent mail in INBOX by default).

    You don't see From column in Sent folder. You will see To:. All emails that you get won't display sender information.

    SquirrelMail developers have to choose between option useful only to some users and option that does not allow interface configurations with "I don't see From: info" support questions.

    I recommend doing it as plugin. It is specific user preference and only small number of users needs it.

    Thanks for the reply. Note that I did not ask to change any columns or make other display or behaviour changes in the Sent folder. I only asked about the "You can't select INBOX as Sent folder" error. If the three lines of code I quoted are removed (or replaced by a warning instead of an error), I'm happy.

    I'd also like to cast my vote for replacing that restriction with a warning.
