[Squirrel-sql-users] Problem pasting in SQL with Syntax highlighting plugin enabled

When the syntax highlighting plugin is enabled, then using copy and paste
to put a large number of SQL statements into the SQL Entry area is
horribly slow, when this is done for the first time. It is much faster the
second time SQL is pasted into the enrty area.

In my test ( with 2.1 rc2), to paste in a file containing 110 SQL
statements took over 3 minutes - during this time, Squirrel is
unresponsive. The same problem was there with SquirreL 2.0.

As soon as I remove syntax.jar from the plugins directory, pasting becomes
instantaneous again. Any ideas ?

Hi Raj,

the reason for this behavior is that SQuirreL loads the columns of a 
table when syntax highlighting encounters a table for the first time. 
The columns are load to be highlighted themselves. If you have a fast 
network connection to your database it is my experience that the SQL 
script you paste must be quite large too take more than a few seconds 
for the columns to load. This can be different if your network is slow.

We introduced a Session property "Load columns in background" that may 
help you. Please beware of the drawbacks of this property that are given 
on top of the checkbox in the Session properties dialog.
