Hi,
    SquirrelSQL has a lot of nice features that as far as I can tell are only 
available via the GUI. For example the DBCopy plug-in allows 

(with varying success) the cutting and pasting of tables between databases even 
when they are from different vendors. I would like to be
able to automate some of these things for example from the command line.

squirrel-sql dbcopy <database1> <database2> <table1> <table2>

I could then embed this in shell scripts or elsewhere.
Another option would be a scripting interface. For instance a lot of programs on 
the old Amiga provided rexx ports allowing one application to control another. 
The sql scripting plugin for squirrel doesn't seem to be aimed at this case.

So I have the following questions:

1. Is there any way to do the kind of automation I'm talking about that I've 
missed.
  E.g.using te scripting plugin somehow.

2. Are there any plans to provide some kind of automation support?

3. Are there any plans to extend the DBCopy plugin to run as a stand-alone 
program?

4. How hard would it be to:
    a. add a scripting interface to squirrel
    b. write a wrapper to DBCopy 

I am a developer but not primarily a java one. That said, I might be able to 
find time to work on some of these angles myself.

5. Who else is interested in this?

6. What other options are there that I've missed?
   Liquibase doesn't currently match dbcopy for cross database copying
   DBUnit I've yet to explore but is next on my list.
   Anything else?

Hi,

don't know if this is the appropriate way to ask for a feature request, 
but is a simple one, and maybe it is already in works but I don't figure 
how:

it would be of great advantage to me to have completion on schema names, 
as I use a SQLServer database with multiple schemas definitions, and to 
elaborate a query it demands schema.table_name in the from clause.

Hi,

    I had the same problem, because of the squirrel native libraries not
available.
just cancell your installation after you got the error messages. 
go to the folder where you have selected the squirrel installaion folder,
from there double click the squirrel-sql.bat.  

  Squirrel will start and it will work.

Same connection string as a regular user.  There is a driver property called
"internal_logon". It needs to be specified (checkbox) and its value should
be "sysdba".

[Squirrel-sql-users] Pipe (|) symbol not accepted

Client 3.2.1, mysql 5.1
Anytime I run an INSERT from the SQL tab with a regex string with a pipe in it,
I get "You have an error in your SQL syntax."  For example, 'a|b'.  Removing the
pipe works fine.  I've heard others report this, but I can't find a work-around.
 The commands work fine from the mysql command line.

Apparently you are trying to connect to the port that does not listen: either wrong server URL or wrong port number.

I'm using SQuirrel SQL Client Version 3.2.1 to connect to a Pervasive database using Pervasive JDBC 2.0 driver.
 
I'm having problems showing cyrillic/bulgarian texts when running a query. Data in result is displayed as "Ïðåîöåíú÷íè ðåçåðâè" which is not correct.
Any ideas how to display cyrillic texts?

Hi Jim,

Our launch scripts ship with -Xmx256m as the heap size setting.  I'm not
sure how you ended up with -Xmx768m - the update process doesn't change the
max heap size setting.  Your setting of 512m for max heap size should be ok
as it's double the size of the default setting.

This evening I updated to Snapshot-20110321_0651.  When starting via bat script (modified), I am receiving the error message "could not create the java virtual machine".
 
I was able to get Squirrel SQL client running again by changing the max heap size back down to -Xmx512m from -Xmx768m.
 
I really need the extra available space, any ideas?

Hello,
Downloaded & installed and looks like it is a 
nice idea. Also downloaded installed MogERDesigner for graphic work - they 
claimed would plug into SQuirreL.
The idea of using one front end client tool for 
multiple engines (Firebird & MySQL for me) is really great. 
However . . . . . the install program doesn't 
provide any drivers to set up connections. Guess its for folks who only work 
with it professionally and know where to get all the drivers needed, how to set 
them up, etc. The documentation (which I read - read the manual first!!) explains 
what you NEED, but nothing on how to get it, and install it. Same problem with 
Open Office - claims can connect to an SQL database, but then always get errors 
no drivers.
Anyway, neat idea. Wish your install package 
downloaded with what was needed to make it work. Guess I'll have to stay with 
apps like DBDesignerFork (that works with Firebird) and the MsSQL Workbench (for 
mysql). They don't seem to be as comprehensive and extensible as what you are 
doing, but at least they can connect to needed databases.

[Squirrel-sql-users] A bug in Sybase plugin?

Hi all,
Anyone noticed that in Sybase the result of a query picks up an original column name instead of the alias?
E.g., in a query

SELECT myid, ptptr AS pointer FROM amp_ctrphids

The result (under Results tab) has columns "myid" and "ptptr".  The analogous query in Oracle produces expected results (with column names specified in the query).

Environment: SQuirreL SQL v 3.2.1 on Windows 7 SP1 64 bit.  Sybase diver: jConnect-7_0 class com.sybase.jdbc4.jdbc.SybDataSource from jconn4.jar; Oracle driver oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver from ojdbc5.jar

You can configure the refactoring pluign to remove the quotes from the
identifiers :

Global Preferences -> Refactoring : uncheck "Quote identifiers in scripts"
