You're almost there. As Squirrel doesn't auto-discover JDBC drivers, putting the driver jars in the Squirrel directory doesn't do anything. You have to explicitly point Squirrel to the drivers you want to use, so it doesn't matter where they are - I recommend leaving them outside the Squirrel directory, BTW.
To add a JDBC driver, see http://www.squirrelsql.org/index.php?page=screenshots, Step 1. There are two parts - adding the required archive file to the classpath and then selecting the class file that provides the JDBC interface.

Subject: [Squirrel-sql-users] Loading Firebird driver
EXTERNAL EMAIL – Use caution with any links or file attachments.
Hello,
I’m new to Squirrel.
I’m trying to configure Squirrel to access a local Firebird database on a Windows computer.
I have the Squirrel Client 3.8.1 installed
The Firebird plugin (0.0.2) is loaded
I understand that I also need to load the Firebird driver, I’m not clear on how to do this
I have downloaded the driver: Jaybird-3.0.4-JDK_1.8
Extracted the ZIP, I’m unclear on where the files need to be placed
I have tried coping the files as follows:
05/05/2018 13:10 2,466,664 jaybird-3.0.4-javadoc.jar
05/05/2018 13:10 925,780 jaybird-3.0.4-sources.jar
05/05/2018 13:10 1,139,445 jaybird-3.0.4.jar
05/05/2018 13:10 1,037,129 jaybird-3.0.4.rar
05/05/2018 13:10 1,167,642 jaybird-full-3.0.4.jar
To:
C:\Program Files\squirrel-sql-3.8.1
And the contents of the lib folder:
Jaybird-3.0.4-JDK_1.8\lib
To:
C:\Program Files\squirrel-sql-3.8.1\lib
After restarting the Squirrel Client, the Firebird driver still has an ‘X’
Thanks
Regards,
Vaughan
