Not really.  I'm a user that tweaks the software to his needs, and at 
some point I was able to persuade Gerd of including one of my changes 
into the official releases in the form of the "Hires icons" plugin [1]. 
I still maintain a bunch of customizations in my own tree, while it 
happens I'm not using SQuirreL very much lately.
