no, SQuirreL is not intended to be limited on the Mac in the way you
describe. But as I do not have access to a Mac I can't reproduce your
problem.
Here are two hints that may help:
1. Make sure you use SQuirreL's installer for Mac. The latest version
can be found here:

2. In the following bugs you find quite some discussions concerning the
