Is there a posting about how to use parameters?

Looking for 3 things:

  1.  How to prompt at run time of a SQL query for a value? and
  2.  How to use that value / variable in a statement?
  3.  How to hardcode a prompt and use in query?

Declare get(promptdate) as date
Select * from table where entrydate = $promptdate
