Ben,
SQuirreL saves all queries/SQL commands in the History as they are executed. Don't blame the screwdriver that it is a bad hammer!

So how should SQuirreL know what columns settings to use? By SQL? You are, supposedly, data analyst; can you imagine a data structure that can be used for that? I routinely use SQL commands that run into several pages of the text - how unwieldy are you willing to make the settings to satisfy your wish? And what if you changed something in the command, e.g., added or changed WHERE clause or ORDER BY clause? Do you expect SQuirreL to analyze your SQL commands to distinguish between this changes and changes in the structure of the result?
Be careful what you wish for - you may end up with Microsoft Windows ;-)
