Hi, I've been using SQuirrel for quite some time. Thanks to everyone for the great work. I'm thinking about trying to develop a plugin that would enable SQuirrell to receive requests from another tool on local host, and then fire those requests off to a specific alias; I know it sounds strange but I'm thinking it could act as a great tool to act as a database gateway for other tools... in a consistent fashion/etc. I use vim quite a bit; If i'm doing serious editing of DB scripts i edit in vim. I have used the vim database extension (dbext) in vim before. This came to mind while trying to use eclim for vim + eclipse java development. Leveraging vim for what it's good at and the IDE for what that is good at. (vim can be anything..... that could package up a call to local host app server embedded in a plugin?) What about command line tools? If there was a simple abstraction layer to make a command line tool (thinking unix/cygwin) dump a call into SQuirrel then dump into any database... thats the power of SQuirrel for me. It's a consistent interface regardless of driver... through JDBC. If we could abstract that and enable an interface to other tools (vim, emacs, etc.) than that might be pretty neat... could use for instance bash looping, etc. Would that in any way fit in as a plugin? (I was thinking an embedded app server (jetty) running only on local host and then pushing callls to jetty to accept and fire through SQuirrel...) What does everyone think? Thanks for your time, -Joe |
