Sorry.  Yes, I have indeed tried the SQL Server login as well as the windows authentication but to no avail.

I could see attempting to use a Domain login having problems in that situation. Have you tried a SQL Server login? You haven't clearly stated whether you've tried that, and if you have, whether or not it works.
