[Squirrel-sql-users] When VPN: java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: invalid arguments in call

I see this behavior both in 2.0 and 2.1rc2

When I connect Squirrel via VPN, I can connect to the databases just fine
and even open the list of tables. But when I click on columns or contents
tabs etc, I get the error:

java.sql.SQLException: Io exception: invalid arguments in call

But the same client works fine from work!

I'd appreciate any help.
