These are defaults of older versions. I guess you already used SQuirreL
before 2.0 rc1 was released. You may try out the following: Go to your
home directory and see if you can find the .squirrel-sql directory
there. Rename the syntax directory in .squirrel-sql/plugins. Then
SQuirreL won't find your old editor preferences anymore and you will see
the defaults of 2.0 rc1. See if you like these better.

Same as above. The Netbeans editor is default of 2.0 rc1.

Try out the latest weekly build. Both tabs (SQL and Objects) will have a
mnemonic. Alt+Q will bring you back to the SQL Editor. You may also like
the new 'View in Object tree' feature of the SQL editor. It is available
through the tools popup (Ctrl+t), the right mouse menu or the Ctrl+b
short cut. If the cursor placed for example on a table name this
function will open the Object tree and the table will be selected.
