In fact, I found that fixing the issue with the "JavaApplicationStub" 
was sufficient to get it to work for me.

At least in some form, anyway - time to play!

  I"m going through the checkout process and I"ll see if I can get anywhere
  looking at some of the issues.

  First fix, in the mac package I did various of us have been finding 
problems
  with the JavaApplicationStub binary. It turns out the package doesn"t need
  to distribute it - instead what is currently a dir MacOS in the package
  should be a link pointing to
  /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Resources/MacOS
  which will pick up the current version as installed on the local machine.

  I"ll make the appropriate changes in CVS when I can get to a machine with
  appropriate rights.
