I'm using PostgreSQL 8.0.1 on Linux. Maybe the Postgres supports driver 
properties only since this version.

If it is an option for you to upgrade your DB I can offer you to send me 
a script and some details so I can tell you if your problem is solved in 
PostgreSQL 8.0.1.
