Hi Ruffin,
I havent used SQuirreL with Oracle 7.3, FWIW its fine with Oracle 8.1.6 and
Oracle 9.
I would expect problems with 7.3. In a previous job we tried using JDBC to
Oracle 7.3 and never got it working properly mainly because the JDBC driver
supplied by Oracle were pretty bad. If you want to post the error messages
that you are getting, they may spark a memory about the problems we were
having.

Subject: [Squirrel-sql-users] SQrL & Oracle 7.3
Anybody using SQrL and Oracle, specifically version 7.3? I noticed on
Google that the JDBC-ODBC bridge isn't always going to work (using Windows
2k, fwiw) b/c of some "fancy metadata" that Oracle uses.
I tried downloading the JDBC drivers from Oracle's site, but got a host of
errors when I was trying to log in. Not sure if I need the dll's on the
site to get the JDBC drivers working (that just seems wrong; it's a *JDBC*
driver, for heaven's sake) or not. Also tried the "thin drivers", but for
whatever reason they weren't connecting with id & pwd's that worked through
simple ODBC.
Unf. I'm not an Oracle guy (SQL Server and Sybase), and am just trying to
use the ANSI-SQL approach once I do get it working, so I know less than
nothing about Oracle-specific stuff. We've got an Oracle box on the network
where we test for Oracle-using clients, and that's that.
If anybody's gone through the setup and wouldn't mind giving me a
play-by-play, I'd sure appreciate it.
Thanks!
Ruffin Bailey
