I have released a version 0.1 of the multiple source plugin that allows a user to build a virtual view of multiple sources and pose one SQL query across them. It is available for download at: https://people.ok.ubc.ca/rlawrenc/multisource.zip Instructions for installation and use are in the package and can also be retrieved separately at: https://people.ok.ubc.ca/rlawrenc/MultipleSourcePlugin_for_SQuirreL_User Manual.pdf One of the code issues that I am not happy with deals with updating the object tree. The idea is that when a virtual session is opened it will retrieve the schema information and update the object tree to show the tables in all sources. I cannot get that to work properly at session start time, although it works perfectly fine later. I would appreciate any feedback on the plugin as well as testing on different data sources and suggestions for improvement. I use SQuirreL for querying different types of databases and sometimes it would be very useful if I could interconnect the results from queries to different types of databases. What kind of restrictions would there be for the data sources that would be combined into the virtual data source? Due to the lack for JDBC drivers for some of my datasources the possibility of using ODBC connections would be very important. The disadvantages of using the JDBC to ODBC bridge have been thoroughly discussed in the SQuirreL mailing-lists, but sometimes there is no other possibility. Do you have plans to make those virtual datasource available for application server data sources as well? Using your solution as a javax.sql.DataSource would create great opportunities. Looking forward to what might develop from your ideas. If I could be of any kind of help I'd be happy to help developing. Especially I could provide help testing for * Oracle * MySQL * MS SQL * different ODBC datasources (e.g. Aspentech InfoPlus.21, MS Access databases) Also I could work on translating to german if that might be needed.
