Be able to select from one database into another. That is, if I have an alias for a db in MSSQL and one in Postrgresql then I can open a session for each and in the later session write a query to select from the former session. The next phase would be to be able to do joins across databases. Of course this is more complicated.
Benefit: Squirrel is superb in working with multiple databases. Often it is useful to join data from two tables though each table resides in a distinct database. Often the distinct databases are in distinct RDBMS platforms.
