#343 i18n - encodings

Squirrel SQL Client Snapshot-20060210_0105
Win 2000 SP4 w/ Update RollUp 1 for SP4
Default "locale" is bg_BG :) but I think following is
common for all ...cyrillic, chinese.. etc. encodings !=

Yesterday while starting bg_BG translation I
encountered following problems.

1. Editing .bat file adding "translation wirking
directories" and/or "To change the language" (either
way) causes starting 2 copies of Squirrel: one in en_US
other in bg_BG and... depends which one is closed last
it overwrites setting of other copy
2. As it seems to me - most important problem is
Translation: files are saved in palin ASCII without
encoding, so... my grievances with cyrrilic started here:
If I try to save e.g. *.properties files with Unicode
(UCS2/UTF16 Little Endian or any other unicode charset)
they are not used at all. If I save them ASCII (as
generated by Squirrel) then I loose encoding and
everything becomes unreadable again :(
3. I've tried GlobalPreferences : Fonts - changing all
4 types of fonts wiht some "custom made" fonts (at
least I can read s.th. with them) yet they don't cover
all fonts used by Squirrel e.g.: at least Splash Screen
and Application Title still unreadable :(

Any suggestions...

    Mailed to Ivan:

    Hi Ivan,

glad to here about your translation.

    On your issue 1.
In your batch file you should have two start ... commands
now. Just put a @rem in front of the one that doesn't
    contain your language settings.

    On your encoding problems:
Please try out the native2ascii tool included in JDK 1.4.x.
For further information on the tool look here:

I will close your bug because I would rather like to handle
translation issues in developer the mailing list. For any
further questions please contact us at
    squirrel-sql-develop@lists.sourceforge.net. In case you
don't like mailing lists you may send your questions
    directly to me too.

    Thanks for your efforts
