When I select the Content tab for a DB2 table on an IBM i, I see that character EBCDIC data is not being translated to character, but is presented in hex.
There is a driver parameter called “translate hex”, but the default for that is the value “character” (the alternative being “binary”), and it doesn’t appear to affect the display of EBCDIC character data, even if I explicitly select it.
System i Navigator does have such a specification under JDBC Settings, on the “Translation” tab, but if I display JDBC Properties, it shows the standard suite of JDBC driver parameters and their settings, but nothing for CCSID translation, so it may really be a “Run SQL Script” client setting, not a JDBC driver setting.
So what may be needed is a corresponding option with the Squirrel SQL Client -- the ability to indicate the code page (e.g., “translate CCSID 65535”).
