This bug is similar to the image segment loading problem when the object memory spans the 2GB boundary. Ned has fixed that, but FFI uses the #isInMemory: method which was not fixed. The attached changeset makes #startOfMemory return an unsigned value (just like endOfMemory, which Ned fixed), and casts the parameter of #isInMemory: to unsigned. - Bert - |

As always, if people grab the code hot off the press they should EXPECT it to break. There are plenty of places to grab KNOWN TO WORK tar balls, zip files etc. - I don't see any reason to respond to anyone's individual complaints. You want the latest stuff? You get it. Don't complain that you got what you wanted. If you want stable, known-to-work configuration use the ones that are released or wait for the next release (which will as surely come as the next spring). Removing the offending code in sqlUnixEvent.c seems to work. Looks like we need to bring the Unix code up to date with the more recent changes. Specifically, the changes to sq.h that were made for host window support are the ones that have caused the problems you describe. And we could add a getImageName() to the Unix VM as well. The reserved fields are now used to pass a windowIndex up to the image. And, umm, I haven't done that yet. -- Ned Konz http://bike-nomad.com/squeak/ |

Given our (certainly _my_) newness with SVN it's entirely possible it got commited by accident when committing something else. If it was me, I apologise. In each case of a sq****Event struct,=A0replace any 'windowIndex' element= with 'reservedXX' where XX is 1 or 2 or 3 - it'll be obvious. has anyone managed to compile the latest Linux/Unix VM from the svn repository? My system environment: VMMaker 3.8b2B from SqueakMap, all plugins internal Image 3.8g 6550 svn trunk snapshot 949 Intel P4, running Fedora Core 1 gcc 3.3.2 It seems that the implementation of 'char* getImageName(void)' is missing from the Unix sources (only MacOSX and Risc define an implementation for that): > vm/vm.a(gnu-interp.o)(.text+0x10dbc): In function `snapshot': > /usr/local/squeak/src/build/bld/vm/gnu-interp.c:20625: undefined reference to `getImageName' > vm/vm.a(gnu-interp.o)(.text+0x11f76): In function `writeImageFile': > /usr/local/squeak/src/build/bld/vm/gnu-interp.c:21800: undefined reference to `getImageName' > collect2: ld returned 1 exit status > make: *** [squeak] Error 1 Also, there are some error messages related to undefined members of the sqMouseEvent structure in platforms/unix/vm/sqUnixEvent.c: > In file included from /usr/local/squeak/src/build/platforms/unix/vm-display-fbdev/sqUnixFBDev.c:110: > /usr/local/squeak/src/build/platforms/unix/vm/sqUnixEvent.c: In function `recordMouseEvent': > /usr/local/squeak/src/build/platforms/unix/vm/sqUnixEvent.c:166: error: structure has no member named `reserved2' > /usr/local/squeak/src/build/platforms/unix/vm/sqUnixEvent.c: In function `recordKeyboardEvent': > /usr/local/squeak/src/build/platforms/unix/vm/sqUnixEvent.c:185: error: structure has no member named `reserved3' > /usr/local/squeak/src/build/platforms/unix/vm/sqUnixEvent.c: In function `recordDragEvent': > /usr/local/squeak/src/build/platforms/unix/vm/sqUnixEvent.c:212: error: structure has no member named `reserved1' > make[1]: *** [sqUnixFBDev.lo] Error 1 > make: *** [vm-display-fbdev.la] Error 2 Anyway, I had to apply the attached patch to make it compile. I would be grateful if someone more intimate with the VM could comment on whether those changes are necessary, safe, or even correct? (The MacOSX VM seems to translate the image name according to the locale. Is that necessary for the Unix VM, too?) Regards, - Wolfgang |

Hi fellow Squeakers! As you may have noticed we have spent some time getting stuff up and running on our new SqF server - box1.squeakfoundation.org. This is a "community owned" virtual server hosted at Bytemark.co.uk running Debian. It currently hosts BFAV, mailinglists and will also host SM in a few hours. It will also host whatever more community services we need. Currently it is mainly maintained by me, Cees de Groot and Ken Causey but Avi Bryant and Marcus Denker also have root access. Regarding the stuff currently on SourceForge - the only thing that I can see that we still need to do something with is the mailinglist archive of squeak-vmdev. I have emailed Bert Freudenberg privately on that. But for the rest: 1. Files The files section from SF has been copied over (including release notes) to: http://box1.squeakfoundation.org/files/ You can see how to mirror it using rsync at: http://box1.squeakfoundation.org/files/MIRRORING.txt Anyone needing to serve files in that dir (Andreas for example) can use scp. There is an account called sqfiles that we use for that, in order to get access - send me your public ssh key (~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub) that you can generate using "ssh-keygen -t dsa". Currently it only holds the Win32 VM files, but it would be neat if we could also host the other VMs in the same place. Note that the various other VM master sites may still of course be around - like Ian's site for example. If it helps we can probably set up rsync also. 2. Mailinglist The new box uses ezmlm, a lean fast and nice mailinglist-program. There is now a new VM-dev list (meant to replace this one) at: vm...@di... You subscribe to it by sending an email to: vm-...@di... We haven't created a commit-list or anything - I am not sure who would want that. No bulk resubscribing will be done - you will just have to do it yourselves. :) 3. CVS (Subversion) The CVS on SF is already obsolete. The new box has Subversion installed and is set up to mirror the current master repository at HP every 10 minutes. The mirror is currently readonly and available through WebDav at: http://box1.squeakfoundation.org/svn/mirrors/squeak One user reported that you may have problems accessing it from behind a proxy, see http://subversion.tigris.org/faq.html#proxy. A workaround was to use Socks5. So...AFAICT we don't really use any of the other services on SF. People, any comments? Anything we have missed? If not we are getting ready to move. regards, Göran and Co. |

Hi again! And now you can mirror it too, instructions at: http://sqf.vm.bytemark.co.uk/files/MIRRORING.txt regards, Göran |

Hi folks! This goes especially to Andreas - all the release files on SF has now been copied over to sqf.vm.bytemark.co.uk. I even turned the release notes into corresponding *README.txt files. :) http://sqf.vm.bytemark.co.uk/files (of course this machine will be accessible under a squeakfoundatio.org name shortly) I will now set up rsynch so that this area can be mirrored to other servers. Currently these files are owned by a special user called "sqfiles" and I think we simply give access to that account to the VM maintainers so that you guys can scp files up there. No we are just waiting for the new VM mailinglist up (coming probably during the day) and then we can officially DUMP SF. If I haven't missed anything. regards, Göran PS. This box is also backed up nightly to a server at Bluefish currently. |
