As part of an embedded Linux firmware upgrade process, I would like to be able to use something like "findfs LABEL=mylabel" (preferred) or "findfs UUID=00C33CE0-7772-E311-8969-C03FD56417AE" in place of a hardcoded pathname like /dev/mmcblk0p1, for greater flexibility in supporting a range of storage devices.

However, as far as I am aware, SquashFS presently supports neither label (volume name), nor filesystem UUID. Is there a technical reason for this? Could support for one or both be added? For such a change to be at all useful, relevant label/uuid detection code would need to be passed on to the util-linux maintainers for inclusion into [lib]blkid also.
