I am looking for a way to carry around a static version such as http://static.wikipedia.org/downloads/November_2006/ja/ of wikipedia on my PDA. I am in the process of testing out squashfs. The original archive is compressed with 7zip and weighs in at around 750MB. I uncompressed and recompressed it with squashfs for a total size of 2.0G. From what I heard 7-zip uses lzma as the compression algorithm. Recompressing with squashfs-lzma got this down to about 1.7G. I was still amazed to see the size more than double. Is this to be expected? Is there any kind of tweaking to make it smaller?
