Hi all,
I'm having problems compiling rudiments 0.30 on OS X v. 10.3.9:
g++: unrecognized option `-pthread'
environment.C:155:26: #error no way to clear environment
environment.C: In static member function `static bool
rudiments::environment::clear()':
environment.C:158: warning: control reaches end of non-void function
make[1]: *** [environment.lo] Error 1
make: *** [all] Error 2
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Hi Dave, > SQL Relay has gotten both featureful > and stable lately, so maybe that's why traffic is low So no news is good news. Glad to hear it... I will also experiment with MDB2 and let you know what I find out. Thanks for contributing this module to the general community! Rob |

I haven't done any specific work to make SQL Relay work with MDB2. It might :) I'll look into it. Yeah, it seems like I don't get as many emails as I used to. Looking through my email, it looks like I get a question about once every 2 days. Though it also looks like a lot of folks have been emailing me directly for the past few months. SQL Relay has gotten both featureful and stable lately, so maybe that's why traffic is low. I should check the sourceforge download stats :) Dave dav...@fi... Greetings everyone, Will SQLRelay work with the PHP Pear MDB2 package? MDB2 supersedes the old DB package. http://pear.php.net/package/MDB2 Also, on an unrelated note, is the mailing list archive out of date? I'm only seeing 1 post to this list for the entire month of October and none for November. Thanks! Rob |

It's implemented. Those connections must be getting used. Once they start up, they will only die off if the level of traffic is low enough that they don't get used. You can test it though. Set connections="1" and maxconnections="3", start 3 sqlrsh sessions and run a query in each. You'll see it scale up to 3 connections, 2 of which have a ttl. Then exit the second and third sqlrsh session and 60 seconds later the connections should die off. David Muse dav...@fi... I hand-edited config.mk and the libtool wrappers in src/connections/oracle8 .. sqlrelay needed ORACLE_HOME set although instant client is not a oracle home install.. It seems to work now. Have to wait for leaks. What was the patch id? Oracle's OCIServerAttach method appears to leak 192 bytes (on x86_64 linux, oracle version 10.2.0.1) whenever it's called if the db isn't available. Since SQL Relay attempts to log every 5 seconds when the db is unavailable, it can lead to huge memory consumption if the db is down. There is apparently a patch or set of patches which fix the problem. One of my customers is using 10.2.0.4 and doesn't have the problem. What exactly happens when connections="0", other than the memory leak? Also, give 0.38 a try. I did recently make some fixes to the connection scaling code. Dave dav...@fi... Hi.
I run sqlrelay against a oracle9 database.
The reason is to avoid connection setup overhead and to
avoid my client app using more than one oracle session to each
database. Also it should provide fault recovery
(Compared to a client which does not have reconnect
logic when db goes down)
If an oracle8 username is invalid for the moment,
will sqlrelay retry to connect until it is valid?
If the TNSNAMES.ORA does not list the supplied oracle_sid
will sqlrelay retry to connect until it is valid?
SQLrelay should be able to recover from all types of
situations where the database it is relaying to goes temporarily
unavailable etc.
I had to set maxlisteners="10" to
avoid sqlrelay from forcing my system to its knees when a database goes
away. maxlisteners should not default to -1 in my opinion.
(should have read the docs)
Example when user not available:
----
starting sqlrelay
Starting listener:
sqlr-listener -id E2FOO -config /usr/local/firstworks/etc/sqlrelay.conf
Starting 1 connections to E2FOO :
sqlr-connection-oracle8 -id E2FOO -connectionid E2FOO -config
/usr/local/firstworks/etc/sqlrelay.conf
OCISessionBegin() failed.
error: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
Couldn't log into database.
Now it seems that the listener does not bind to its port (9001).
Is this desired? Will the listener become available when the
username does?
Config:
<instance id="E2FOO" addresses="127.0.0.1" port="9001"
unixport="/tmp/sqlrelay.e2FOO.socket" dbase="oracle8" connections="1"
maxconnections="1" maxqueuelength="0" growby="1" maxlisteners="10"

runasgroup="nuucp" cursors="5" authtier="listener" handoff="reconnect"

</users>
<connections>
<connection connectionid="E2FOO"
string="user=FOOtools;password=FOOtools;oracle_sid=E2FOO"
metric="1" behindloadbalancer="no"/>
</connections>
</instance>

Hello. If I configure an instance to have connections="0" and the database is unavailable, sqlrelay seems to run amok for me when trying to scale up connections when needed. Also I noticed strange memory leaks when an oracle8 database went away (sqlr-connection-oracle8 for an unavailable instance consuming some 450M memory on hp-ux 11.11i) This was using 0.37 |

Hello Group, SQL Relay 0.38 is out! The highest profile feature of this release is support for query routing and filtering. You can, for example, send all insert/update/delete's to a master and distribute selects over a pool of slaves. There are some caveats, but it can now be done. There are other important features in this release too, here's the changelog: 0.38 - implemented mysql_stmt function support in mysql connection fixed mysql_autocommit detection fixed missing self before __getRow and __getRowRange in python db driver implemented query filtering and routing interbase/firebird dead-db/relogin works now added test for 0 length result set to PySQLRDB's fetchmany method added mysql_config sanity test to configure script NULL's are escaped in fake input BLOB binds now query router works pretty well now applied Sharpinskiy Dmitry's odbc unicode patch integrated Devananda's statistics gathering code added support for mysql stored procedures integrated Devananda's mysql result set updates sqlrelay.conf.example installed as $datadir/examples/sqlrelay.conf now integrated Andreas Behr's listener crash patch removed erroneous reference to sqlrcon_errormessage in php pear db another multibyte clob fix added "delimiter" command to sqlrsh to change delimiter from ; to whatever removed msql support added db2 9.1 installation doc added firebird 2.0 installation docs router connection overrides authtier=database fixed a bug where clients would hang if they requested a cursor when none were available added some additional mdb 5 checks to configure script added iconv const char parameter check to configure script the main listener doesn't listen for clients until all of the connections have started now added notes about tcp_tw_recycle/tcp_tw_reuse in tuning doc ping causes the connection to relogin if it returns false now added iconv include/library find to configure script fixed sqlrlistener so forked listeners don't remove the pid file switched oracle 8 column size variable type from sb4 to ub2 if maxqueuelength>maxlisteners then scaling isn't used Give it a run, report any bugs. Have fun! David Muse dav...@fi... |

Does Courier-IMAP call it many times to switch between different db's or just once? If not, then setting up the SQL Relay instance to point to the db it needs to use and making mysql_select_db return true is probably the best solution. If so, then there probably isn't a good solution at present. Dave Muse dav...@fi... Is it possible that you have an older version of SQL Relay currently installed under /usr/local/firstworks? That would cause the error you're seeing. Dave dav...@fi... Hello, First of all, i'd like to express my appreciation for this nice open-source software, which already proved usefull and efficient, so thank you for it. Now to the matter at hands. I'm trying to integrate Courier-iMAP with Mysql backend and SQLRelay. I detected that Courier-IMAP's authlib, which is the daemon responsible for communicating with MySQL for auth, exits when calling mysql_select_db(). SQLRelay docs say that this function will always return false, so the problem is found. My question is.. pretty much almost every application talking to MySQL calls mysql_select_db(), no? So, doesn't this break them all? What are my options? Change SQLRelay's code to always return true? What could be the implications of that? Changing courier's code seems overkill, and the point of using LD_PRELOAD tactic is exactly to avoid the need of chaning the app's code. Any ideas? Thank you, rodrigo |

Sorry for taking sooo looong to respond :/ That's a good question. I don't think I've ever tried it before, so there probably isn't a way to do it. I think it would be easy to implement though. The code that's in CVS right now has this feature. I've been working hard to get it released, but I've been pretty busy taking care of customer requests lately so it's been slow-going. You could try the CVS version though. Make sure you check out the CVS version of rudiments as well. The feature is described as "query routing and filtering" in the docs. There are some limitations and they are discussed in the docs as well, but it works in general. David Muse dav...@fi... I see in the TODO that the feature 'reads from slave and writes to master' is under consideration for the future. For what it is worth, I think this feature would be amazingly useful. Particularly in the case of mysql, a cluster has many drawbacks and it is often impractical or impossible to change an application to support a master/slave replication setup. This feature in sqlrelay would make it much easier to use a replicated database setup with existing open source applications. Since I have started looking for something which could do this I have found dozens of posts from people asking the same question: can I send reads to one database and writes to another? The answer people give is always that you must rewrite your application to do this manually. It would be nice if sqlrelay could be the answer. -elijah |

Hello,
I just discovered SQL Relay and have been trying to get it work for the
first time. It seems that the latest stable release, 0.37.1, is
completely incompatible with MySQL 4.1.20. Eg.,
mysql -u X -p X -P9000
Enter password:
Debugging to:
/home/moanui/jhoblitt/jhroot/i686-pc-linux-gnu//var/sqlrelay/debug/sqlr-listener.15087
Segmentation fault
I dug through this list's archives and found a thread here:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=12572938
that suggests there are some known issues with 0.37.1 & Mysql 4.1.x,
even if of a slightly different nature. So I tried to build from CVS
and got this compilation error:
g++ -Wall -pipe -pthread
-DTMP_DIR=\"/home/moanui/jhoblitt/jhroot/i686-pc-linux-gnu//var/sqlrelay/tmp\"
-DDEBUG_DIR=\"/home/moanui/jhoblitt/jhroot/i686-pc-linux-gnu//var/sqlrelay/debug\"
-DDEFAULT_CONFIG_FILE=\"/home/moanui/jhoblitt/jhroot/i686-pc-linux-gnu//etc/sqlrelay.conf\"
-I./ -I../../ -I../../src/common -pthread -c cmdline.C -fPIC -DPIC -o
.libs/cmdline.o
cmdline.C: In member function 'void cmdline::setId()':
cmdline.C:20: error: 'getValue' was not declared in this scope

Hi,
I am trying to use sored procedures with output bind cursor.
Here's my code.
$con=3Dsqlrcon_alloc("hosr,"","sqltest","relay",0,1);
$cur=3Dsqlrcur_alloc($con);
sqlrcur_prepareQuery($cur,"begin =
PROCEDURES_PCK.P_GET_ARTICLELIBELLE_BY_REF(:refcentrale, :curseur); =
end;");
sqlrcur_inputBind($cur,"refcentrale","P8297734");
sqlrcur_defineOutputBindCursor($cur,"curseur");
sqlrcur_executeQuery($cur);
$bindcur=3Dsqlrcur_getOutputBindCursor($cur,"curseur");
sqlrcur_fetchFromBindCursor($bindcur);
var_dump($bindcur);
var_export(sqlrcur_rowCount($bindcur));
var_export(sqlrcur_totalRows($bindcur));
var_export(sqlrcur_colCount($bindcur));
# print fields from table
for ($i=3D0; $i<sqlrcur_rowCount($bindcur); $i++) {
for ($j=3D0; $j<sqlrcur_colCount($bindcur); $j++) {
echo sqlrcur_getField($bindcur,$i,$j);
echo ", ";
}
echo "\n";
}
My issue is that I receive a sqlRelay resources in bindCursor but there =
is no rows, no cols, etc...
I have tried the same thing with oci and it works so the procedure works =
well.
Can somebody helps me , PLEASEEE !! ;-)

Hi.
How do I configure sqlrelay to use a oracle8 login
which is identified externally (OS authentication).
I get:
OCISessionBegin() failed.
error: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
or
error: ORA-01005: null password given; logon denied
My conf:
<connections>
<connection connectionid="FOO"
string="user=/;password=;oracle_sid=FOOFOO"
metric="1" behindloadbalancer="no"/>
</connections>
