Unfortunately, that is the only solution right now.  I've been working 
on an ODBC driver for SQL Relay that could also be used with JDBC but 
recently I've been very busy with contract work.

If you're interested, I'd be happy to develop a JDBC driver for you on a 
contract basis.  Just email me directly and we can discuss.
