hi there, i am just trying to install SL on a slackware server which is colocated on a server farm and i'm getting the error Error! No Database Drivers available! when i access http://localhost/sql-ledger/admin.pl using lynx over a remote sesion. i have these questions, can anybody help?!? has anyone run SL successfully on slackware - i am a debian man myself but the server farm initially sets up the servers with slackware. it would cost - but i can get them to reinstall and use debian stable instead? how do you browse the list archive? thanks for any help, kev bailey |

hi all, it looks like i am further on with an attempt to install to a debian/woody test machine. i have come up against the error permission denied users/members also, i am not entirely sure about the debian instructions. 1. i take it that there is a typo on point 4 and that the file which should be altered is /etc/postgresql/postmaster.conf and not .init 2. the install DBI - is this possible to do via apt-get etc. if not - where do i get hold of DBI-1.14.tar.gz 3. these lines, $ export POSTGRES_INCLUDE=/usr/include/postgresql $ export POSTGRES_LIB=/var/lib/postgres ...can i take it that these are temporary variables set up for when the DBD-Pg is installed which happens next. and again - where do i get hold of DBD-Pg-0.95 thanks for any help, kev |

hi there, thanks for the reply - i had found these packages but its good to hear i'm on the right track! i am going to suggest some updates to the installation instructions now that woody is about to be frozen and become the stable debian distribution. i am currently tring to create a new database - and am getting the message IDENT authentication failed i think this may be to do with the setup of postgres and am checking it out via deja.com thanks again, kev gha...@fr... wrote: > On Sun, 17 Feb 2002, kevin bailey wrote: > > >>it looks like i am further on with an attempt to install to a >>debian/woody test machine. >> >>2. the install DBI - is this possible to do via apt-get etc. >> >>if not - where do i get hold of >>DBI-1.14.tar.gz >> > libdbi-perl is what Debian calls it. You need to edit /etc/postgresql/pg_hba.conf to set up how
you want Host Based Authentication (that's what hba is in pg_hba)
working. I think dpkg installs a line like:
#host all 127.0.0.1 255.255.255.255 password
I changed mine to
host all 192.168.10.2 255.255.255.255 password
^^^^^^^^^^^^ IP of your interface

Not to worry, the file will be created when you use admin.pl for the first time. Of course, the permission has to be set correctly for the users directory. # finally the settings in pg_hba.conf were too restrictive and i set them to host all 127.0.0.1 255.0.0.0 trust obviously this should be tighter but it was late at the time!!! Knowing the CPAN name for something doesn't always help in finding the Debian name for the same package. It is preferred you get packages as debs, if possible to make keeping things consistent as easy as possible. Gord |
