Dutch translation.

hi there,

I'am busy translating the all-file to Dutch including the templates. I've done 
about 70% so far, and come up with the following questions. I hope someone can 
give me the answers so I can finish this translation and post it to the 
developers.
Service => I think you mean something like a description for hours?
COGS => Think this is a apprevation for buying some goods??? Where does it 
stand for???
CR => ???
DR => ???
Deposit => Is this something you receive???
GIFI Code => ???

Can anyone give me some more explanation on this words in more than a short 
sentence so I can make a correct translation to Dutch.

hi there,

I have finished the dutch translation of the all-file and I will post it this 
week. I still consider it a little beta cause there might be a slight 
misstranslation. Not on a word-base, but more the exact meaning of a word.
I'll also post the translated templates. I'am still working on the sql file to 
translate the account-description's to dutch. It might be possible I make a 
little modification to the table-structure to be more useable for the dutch 
market. When I do so I will say it as well.

I have not used sql-ledger yet (I have been trying since ver. 1.2.9 but have not
succeeded to make it work!!!!), but as Accountant I would guess

COGS = Cost of Goods Sold
CR = Credit
DR = Debit

For Service and GIFI I would leave for Americans/Canadians to answer !

I guess SQL-Ledger first designed to link bying and selling with goods.
Later on support for "virtual" goods was added - things like "support",
"Service" and "Consultancy" that is not stored in a room with the risk of
running low on amounts...

I looked it up and found the term "Cost of goods sold". in my danish
translation I made it something like "Sales expenses", but I think it
refers only to the loss of storing goods (non-virtual goods that is).

Debet or Credit transactions.

It is used in ca.pl, where I found this:

    $total += $ca->{balance};

    $drcr = " ";
    $balance = " ";
    if ($ca->{balance} > 0) {
      $balance = sprintf("%.2f", $ca->{balance});
      $drcr = $locale->text('CR');
    }
    if ($ca->{balance} < 0) {
      $balance = sprintf("%.2f", -$ca->{balance});
      $drcr = $locale->text('DR');
    }

In other words, you could translate it to "Debet" and "Credit" if those
are the terms used in the Netherlands (and Belgium).

(I'll correct this in the danish translation as well...)

Yeah, I think Dieter wanted a different wording of "payment" for selling
and buying...

gifi: General Index of Financial Information (Canadian way to collect
financial information in a codified format)

I'm pretty sure COGS means exactly what the words say.  I.e., you buy 
a dozen widgets from your distributor at $10 each.  You sell 8 of 
them.  Your COGS is $80.  The other 4 are accountable as inventory.

Well, I should maybe keep quiet about things I don't know about - my
company deals with "Services" only (if I ever buy goods for my clients
then I simply pass on the bill without charging extra), and thus I haven't
really understood the concept and wordings concerning goods... :-)

I have yet to have business friends of mine proof-read my danish
translations.

This is just when you sell anything that is not a physical good.  It could be the
hours for a programmer, engineer, or accountant.  The phone company also sells
"service".

Cost of Goods Sold.  For the cost of the physical goods you manufacture or buy to
sell.  Includes raw materials, direct labor, inventories, etc.
