[SL] Byte sequence error - restoration

I am behind :)
Current
SQL-Ledger 2.6.22 with Postgresql 8.1
        
Moving to
SQL-Ledger 2.8.14 with Postgresql 8.3
        
I created the backup through the SL gui, but when attempting to restore
with psql -U etc I get a recurring error until it drops
        
ERROR:  invalid byte sequence for encoding "UTF8": 0x8b
HINT:  This error can also happen if the byte sequence does not match
the encoding expected by the server, which is controlled by
"client_encoding".
        
Through SL Admin, the datasets are assigned the default encoding.  Can
someone shed some light on this?

It seems your database's encoding is UTF-8, and your backup's is not. If 
you created the target DB manually and didn't specify the charset, it's 
  in UTF-8.
EITHER try to insert

	set client_encoding to sql_ascii;

at the beginning of your backup file if you're in USA, or

	set client_encoding to latin1;

if you're in Europe.
OR create a DB with the charset you need with

	ceatedb -E <charset> <db-name>

I hope you don't try to restore a 2.6.22 backup into a 2.8.14 installation?
