Hello All,
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who is using SQL-Ledger to track
the Australian GST, and how have you found the system, etc. I would like to
know how you went so that I can avoid misstakes with the software, before it
is too late.
In Australia we have a choice, of calculating our GST taxes, a Cash based tax
system, or a Non-cash based tax system. With a cash based system, the GST
should be calculated when a payment is received, in the Non-cash based tax
system the valuation off the entry of the invoice. After testing SQL-Ledger,
it looks like that it's setup for the Non-cash based system. The GST showed
straight after the invoice was entered.
How do we change the GST so that the GST only shows after a payment has been
received? My business operates off the cash based system.
For the Australian GST, we have to lodge a "BAS" (Business Activity
Statement) and pay our GST either Quarterly or monthly. What we needed for
the BAS,
1/ Is the total of our all our sales being services, or goods, that total can
include or exclude the GST
2/ Show out of our sales the totals of GST-Free, and Export-Sales
3/ Show the total of Capital purchases including the GST
4/ Show the total of Non-Capital purchases including the GST
5/ Show Total salary, wages and other payments
6/ Show the total of withheld payment from the Total salary, "wages and other
payments"
7/ Amount withheld when no ABN is quoted.. This is meant to be at 48.5%
(ABN= "Australian Business Number")
8/ Any other withheld moneys
9/ The totals of all of the withheld
10/ Summary of all Gst on sales, or GST installments
11/ PAYG tax withheld
12/ PAYG income tax installment
13/ GST on Purchases
14/ The Total that the TAX office is owe, or what they owe you.
Umm this is a little more but I think that's about most of it.
Hopfully, I can have a look at a way so that i can get these figures out of
the system, when I do my BAS statement
Cheers
Mark Williamson
