I don't know the exact cause of the problem. The first thing I would do is check my apache error log file and see if that gives me any information. There are a couple of things I would look at. Please relize I'm not a guru so I may make mistatements. First of all, why does your admin.pl have the l permission? I think that means it is a linked file. That indicates you've done something different than the instructions told you to do. I've got the feeling your problem is not with the file permissions but with your Apache Configuration. What I would do 1) See if I can run a hello world perl program from the command prompt. If not something is wrong with perl 2) Place that program in my htdocs directory and see if I can view it from a browser. If not I would check my CGI settings in Apache's http.conf file. I'd also check if I'm able to run any cgi programs 3) See if I can place the hello world in my sql-ledger folder. Can I view it from a browser? If not I'd check the alias settings in http.conf. 4) If all this is working, I'd check that admin.pl has the same ownership and permissions 5) Lastly, I'd check the sql-ledger configuration file and the connection to the database. If you reach this point and still are having trouble please post your troubles again. Hi All
I am having trouble setting up Sql-ledger for the first time. I =

You don't have permission to access /sql-ledger/admin.pl on this server.

Apache/1.3.12 Server at http://192.168.0.2 Port 80
I am using SuSE 6.2 (i386, Linux 2.2.14). I am using the address of the =
NIC as the ServerName. I have changed the ownership of the directories =
user, template. I also changed the ownership of the sql-ledger =
directory with no luck. The admin.pl file has all the permissions set =
lrwxrwxrwx. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks.

Howdy! I am getting an internal server error when I invoke the login.pl script. It comes up with a Can't locate /usr/local/www/sql-ledger/users/test2.conf at SL/User.pm line 115. Compilation failed in require at /usr/local/www/sql-ledger/login.pl line 77. [Thu Nov 29 23:25:33 2001] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] Premature end of script headers: /usr/local/www/sql-ledger/login.pl error in the httpd error-log. Seems as if it is unable? to create the users conf file on initial login. I have checked the directories on the web server, and I am able to login as su nobody and put files in the users directory. The admin front-end seems to be working correctly though. I was able to add a user and create/delete databases just fine. The file is not in the users directory after I have created a user. I am able to edit the user after I have created them, so I figured that the .conf file is created upon initial login. It's redhat 7.1 with stock apache and stock perl. Thanks, Steve |

Either disable access for all menu items except AR Reports. Then REVOKE rights so they can't delete anything, see the FAQ, and limit the selection menu for the customer to their name. The last step requires a couple lines of code. Or, write a new search screen and hardcode the name and options. This can be straight html, design one for each customer, or one screen with a bit of perl magic. You still need to revoke rights so they can't delete anything. This error means something has gone wrong. To get more information you need to check your apache error_log file. It will give you a clearer idea of what has gone wrong. Mike, Thanks for your error log. I think it points to the problem. It looks like you named your database CCAINC. The database ccainc was created. When sql-ledger tries to find CCAINC you get an error. When it tries to create a new ccainc it errors saying that database was already created. Solution: Create a new database and use only lowercase letters. -Gary On Fri, 23 Nov 2001, Mike wrote: > Sorry, but I wanted to send my error_log > > Error: Database is offline; please try again later > Compilation failed in require at /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl line 77. > DBI->connect(dbname=CCAINC;host=localhost) failed: connectDBStart() -- > connect() failed: Connection refused at SL/User.pm line 1$Error: Database is > offline; please try again later > Compilation failed in require at /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl line 77. > DBI->connect(dbname=CCAINC) failed: FATAL 1: Database "CCAINC" does not > exist in the system catalog. at SL/User.pm line 119 > Can't call method "disconnect" on an undefined value at SL/User.pm line 127. > Compilation failed in require at /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl line 77. > [Fri Nov 23 14:59:50 2001] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] Premature end of script > headers: /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl > DBI->connect(dbname=CCAINC) failed: FATAL 1: Database "CCAINC" does not > exist in the system catalog. at SL/User.pm line 119 > Can't call method "disconnect" on an undefined value at SL/User.pm line 127. > Compilation failed in require at /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl line 77. > [Fri Nov 23 15:00:08 2001] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] Premature end of script > headers: /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl > DBI->connect(dbname=CCAINC;host=localhost) failed: connectDBStart() -- > connect() failed: Connection refused at SL/User.pm line 1$Error: Database is > offline; please try again later > Compilation failed in require at /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl line 77. > DBD::Pg::db do failed: ERROR: CREATE DATABASE: database "ccainc" already > exists at SL/User.pm line 276. > Error: ERROR: CREATE DATABASE: database "ccainc" already exists CREATE > DATABASE ccainc > Compilation failed in require at /var/www/html/sql-ledger/admin.pl line 77. > Database handle destroyed without explicit disconnect. > Error: root is not a member > Compilation failed in require at /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl line 77. > DBI->connect(dbname=CCAINC;host=localhost) failed: connectDBStart() -- > connect() failed: Connection refused at SL/User.pm line 1$Error: Database is > offline; please try again later > Compilation failed in require at /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl line 77. > DBI->connect(dbname=CCAINC;host=localhost;port=80) failed: PQconnectDB() -- > couldn't read postmaster response: errno=2 at SL/Use$Can't call method > "disconnect" on an undefined value at SL/User.pm line 127. > Compilation failed in require at /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl line 77. > Error: Administrator is not a member > Compilation failed in require at /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl line 77. > Error: Incorrect Password > Compilation failed in require at /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl line 77. > DBI->connect(dbname=CCAINC;host=localhost) failed: connectDBStart() -- > connect() failed: Connection refused at SL/User.pm line 1$Error: Database is > offline; please try again later > Compilation failed in require at /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl line 77. > DBI->connect(dbname=template1;host=localhost) failed: connectDBStart() -- > connect() failed: Connection refused at SL/User.pm lin$Error: Database is > offline; please try again later > Compilation failed in require at /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl line 77. > DBI->connect(dbname=CCAINC;host=localhost;port=80) failed: PQconnectDB() -- > couldn't read postmaster response: errno=2 at SL/Use$Can't call method > "disconnect" on an undefined value at SL/User.pm line 127. > Compilation failed in require at /var/www/html/sql-ledger/login.pl line 77. > > > |

I got this error when I first installed SQL-Ledger. The cause of the problem wasn't anything like what the error message would have lead me to believe. After a long fight I managed to rid myself of the error. I did the following: 1) Named my database in all lower case letters 2) Insured the Database Adminstrator was postgres 3) Insured that Connected To used template1 3) Verified that postgres was the user that created the postgresql installation 4) Changed the sql-ledger configuration file so that postgres was the user. I think pregres was the one in the configuration file. 5) Reinstalled from scratch postgresql, DBD and DBI Unfortuantely, I don't know exactly which of these steps fixed the problem. I had a series of setback before I got everything up and running. I hope this helps you out. -Gary On Fri, 23 Nov 2001, Louis B. is there an option for the customer to login and check their statement from our accounting system using Sql-Ledger? that way they can see which invoices are outstanding and which are paid, on their own time. if there is no option to do this, what would i need to do to implement such a function? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Well I got it up and running.. I think? After setting up a user I tried to login and got this error. Database is off line. Postgres is running. It would be nice to have some detailed documentation. In fact after I figure this out and full in love with it. I would be happy to write a howto. |

I run Debian testing/unstable and unstable systems with PostgreSQL. The completely "unstable" system has SQL-Ledger, and it works. Or at least the version of SQL-Ledger installed on it works. I may not be quite up to date. Gord |

Greetings, I'm trying my first SQL-Ledger installation, using Postgres on a Debian box (Potato which implies postgres 6.5). In due course of creating the database I get: ERROR: parser: parse error at or near "select" insert into tax (chart_id,rate) values ((select id from chart where accno = 2310),0.07); It appears that postgres 6.5 isn't able to do the parenthetical select, is this problem resolved with postgres 7.x? Thanks in advance, Louis |

Hi there,
I am trying to install the last release of
sql-ledger software but i always get this error :
##########################3
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access
/sql-ledger/admin.pl on this server.
Apache/1.3.20 Server at linux Port 80
############################
My httpd.conf file has the following entries :
AddHandler cgi-script .pl
DocumentRoot "/var/www"
<Directory "/var/www">
Alias /sql-ledger/ "/var/www/sql-ledger/"
<Directory "/usr/www/sql-ledger">
Options ExecCGI Includes FollowSymlinks
<Directory>
User nobody
Group nogroup
With the above configuration in my http.conf file i
still get the error above.
Besides to that there is something else i don't
understand of the faq.html file in the "permission
denied" section about
chown nobody:nogroup users templates users/members
i don't have the "users/members", is that right ?, or
i got a wrong installation, or it means
users/members.defautl file ?.
Please let me know .
I will appreciate it.
Joe

Hi mike, B4 we get all comfortable that there is something wrong with apache conf file..... Its always good to know what is the exact error. You can identify the error for apache or the error which explains when executing the *.pl in you apache logs directory normally named error-log or error_log. Also check your syslog or messages sometimes error appears there too..... Let us know what's the error ... so we could be of greater help :) Steve K Business Development Manager Enixus Pte Ltd ----- Original Message ----- From: "Herb Richter" <he...@bu...> To: "Mike" <gu...@cc...> Cc: <sql...@li...> Sent: Thursday, November 22, 2001 9:36 AM Subject: Re: Install > > On Wed, 21 Nov 2001, Mike wrote: > > > Hi users, > > > > I just installed sql-ledger and can't pull up admin.pl to get things started. > > > > Installed on RedHat 7.2 > > Postgres is running. 1) Did you mean /var/www/html/sql-ledger ?
^^^^
On my Redhat 7.1 the "standard" place for webserver documents and scripts
is /var/www/html/ .../var/www/ should be ok if you set DocumentRoot to
this in httpd.conf *and* made .pl scripts executable in that directory.
2) If you are using /var/www/html/sql-ledger be sure that an AddHandler
line is set to:
AddHandler cgi-script .cgi .pl
-or-
AddHandler cgi-script .pl
(I can't remember what the default line was)

Did you restart the server? Changes made in httpd.conf are only
recognized when the server starts up.
