Maybe it is different for BSD... but why is the directory /usr/local/share/apache/htdocs/sql-ledger/ in double-quotes? I run Apache over Linux, and the documentation never has quotes. Something to try if the above AddHandler line doesn't work. -Qaexl- |

Hello, I have one more feature request. I think it would be very nice to have the possibility to save an offer I made for a costumer in the system without actually booking it. Then when there is a deal you could just change the offer to an order, maybe print an order confirmation, and later printing the invoice and booking it. Without retyping the same information over and over again. This would be a very important feature to us. We have been looking into commercial ledger software for linux but it either to expensive or doesn't fit our needs. If someone could implement these features, we would be very willing to provide some funding for this project. I think this could be very interesting for other people, too. That depends entirely on what your Apache is running under. The RedHat installs of 7.0 and above runs Apache as the apache user. I know that previous distros of Redhat uses nobody.nobody. Certainly, other Unix platforms defaults to nobody.nobody. That's the traditional design of UNIX platforms, yes. You can probably dig up the esoteria somewhere from the original designers on why. It has slipped my mind. -Qaexl- |

Hello, I've been using SQL-Ledger for over half a year now and I have to say I am very impressed. So far we have used it mainly to print invoices, but next year we will start using the accounting system as well. I have the following question: We set up our template for invoices and it works fine as long as the invoice is only one page long. We would like to add a feature, that when there is more than one page it will print a subtotal for the page on the bottom, print the subtotal on the next page too and use a different layout for the second and therefor pages (first page is company paper everything else is just plain white paper). Are there control contructs like if else one could use for this problem? Has anyone ever had the same problem and maybe found a cure? Any help would be highly appreciated because it is a big problem. As a start we have http://www.sql-ledger.org/misc/faq.html But it seems to me we could flesh this out abit. Also, I've messaged Dieter to see if we can get ahold of the archives as one file rather than having to download one month at a time. The lack of a searchable archive on Source Forge is a hindrance and really necessitates a more verbose FAQ. I expect 'how to unsubscribe from a mailing list' could be at the top of this file. ;-) Anyone who fancies joining in, please speak up! -------------------------------------------------------------------- Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Centers =20 -------------------------------------------------------------------- Thomas Good tomg@ { admin | q8 } .nrnet.org Programmer/Analyst Phone: 718-818-5528=20 Behavioral Health Services Fax: 718-818-5056 =20 Residential Services Mobile: 917-282-7359 =20 -------------------------------------------------------------------- /* Rekordmeister ist nur der FC Bayern M=FCnchen! */ -------------------------------------------------------------------- |

People routinely experience difficulties setting up DBI/DBD and I'm
not too sure why...(?) It is *relatively* painless, the only non-
standard step being that you must declare env vars before installing
DBD.
One other top ten error is not using the -i flag when you start the
server...this kills tcp/ip.
If you would like, we could contribute to Dieter's project by
writing an FAQ. Combing the archives for the usual pitfalls
would make an excellent start.
In the interim here is a script that tests connectivity.
Although I don't mind posting this occasionally, it might be
nice if was available in an FAQ or the package itself.
#!/usr/bin/perl
use DBI;
$dbh =3D DBI->connect("dbi:Pg:dbname=3Dtemplate1", '', '') || die "$DBI::er=
rstr";
$query =3D "select current_time";
$sth =3D $dbh->prepare($query);
$sth->execute || die "$DBI::errstr";
$time =3D $sth->fetchrow_array;
$sth->finish;
$dbh->disconnect;
print "\nThe time is: $time\n";

Nick ... Even though you installed the db, DBI, and DBD, you might want to verify that each really works. I say this because I have seen misleading msgs when the DBD was not working right. They had me on a wild goose chase for awhile. You can test the PostgreSQL database with psql (as you probably know), and write a short perl program to try to successfully connect to the db to test DBI and DBD. Come to think of it, it would be nice to have short test programs that come along with the installation SW. Dear Ralph,
I think the two examples that you mentioned can be solved as follows,
Example 1:
a) Treat the 4 HDs as normal purchase and book them into inventory.
b) Transfer 1 HD into asset as thus,
Dr Asset (cost of 1 HD)
Cr Inventory (cost of 1 HD)
Example 2:
Your customer's bill would appear as,
Number Description Qty Price
part1 Harddisk 1 $999
part2 Support Service 1 $99.9
ie, separate what you want to charge your customer into two or more items.
Best Regards,
CK Wu

You will need DBI, a perl module, and DBD-Pg a perl "driver". Go to your unix distribution cd and install the perl modules that complement your postgres installation or check out www.cpan.org You can get DBI from: http://cpan.valueclick.com/modules/by-category/07_Database_Interfaces/DBI/ and DBD from: =20 http://cpan.valueclick.com/modules/by-category/07_Database_Interfaces/DBD/ You need to install DBI *first*. Also you will need to set two environment variables to successfully build DBD: POSTGRES_INCLUDE and POSTGRES_LIB You will find references to this process in the archives for this list.
