Good morning ! I'm glad to subscribe to this list and find so many professionals in it. I'm delighted to meet you all. I've recently installed SQL-Ledger 2.6.22 in a Debian 4.0 (etch). I was able to start playing with the "SQL-Ledger Accounting Administration" and successfully creating some testing Datasets. They all seem to work fine, but I'm asking myself *** which would be the best combination between "Multibyte Encoding" and "Chart of Accounts" to be used in Argentina? *** (Spanish-spoken Country). Multibyte Encoding I would choose: * ISO-8859-15 (Latin alphabet no.9) * Unicode (UTF-8) Chart of accounts I would use: * Colombia-PUC * Colombia-utf8-PUC * Spain-ISO * Spain-UTF8 * Paraguay * Venezuela_Default I appreciate you suggestions, hoping they may result useful for other users in this same initial stage. Thank you very much for your time. Have a nice week. |

Just an update on this. Permissions are all fine and the reports run with no problems in our test company. Reading up a bit on the errors it looks like a simple timeout problem where Apache is giving up on the script before it finishes due to the amount of data we have slowing the script down. (System resources are okay so we're not running out of memory or anything). Suggestions/advice are welcome and we'll keep plugging away at it and post back if we figure it out. Hello Luke, there are several "logical" ways to calculate discounts. 1) $ 2.95 x 0.1 = 0.295 -> round up to 0.3 => ( 2.95 - 0.3 ) x 12 = 31.80 2) ($ 2.95 x 12) = 35.40 => 35.40 - 3.54 = 31.86 Seems to me that SL is using calculation 1) Of course rounding in 1) depends on the precision (which you changed later on). You could argue that rounding should only be applied to the final amount i.e. after calculating the line item total and in fact some programs are doing this. Other people prefer a summary calculation as in 2) In your particular case the easiest way might be to enter the price manually and to put in a corresponding note explaining the calculation. We'll certainly check that, but why would it be any different for 2.8.x vs 2.6.x...? Maybe a new script file brought down during the upgrade that got defaulted to the wrong perms? But are those executables locatable by SL at runtime? I.e. is the executables' folder in the search path that SL "sees"? Just for the heck of it, since you already know where they're being called from, you could test this theory by hard-coding the full path into the script where it calls to those executables and see if it works. Still no luck. Seems to me SL uses commands 'dvips' for postscript and 'pdflatex' for pdf - both run fine from command line, but SL still gives the 'Error!' message. And since there are no logs in SL it's hard to tell where the problem is. But since it runs from command line, I can't blame Latex, seems to have something to do with SL after all. I'd install Linux, but can't, since I need to run some Windows programs on the same machine as well. Any other ideas, anyone? Hi Kristjan, I'd guess - but it's only a guess - that Ghostscript might be required. (Update: http://faculty.smu.edu/barr/latex/ seems to confirm this) Can you make a PDF using a simple test .tex file? I haven't used LaTeX on Windows, but the comp.text.tex newsgroup [1] is VERY helpful. The FGA (frequently given answer) there is "Can you recreate the problem in a minimal example and post it?" For example, one of my problems was in the past resolved by basing future revisions on the following tex markup: \documentclass[pdftex]{article} \usepackage[latin1]{inputenc} \usepackage[pdftex]{geometry} \geometry{a4paper,landscape, nohead, nofoot, left=15mm,right=15mm,top=1cm,bottom=1cm} \usepackage{longtable} \begin{document} \thispagestyle{empty} \noindent ABC\hfill this XYZ\par \vfill\noindent ABC\hfill XYZ \end{document} Under Linux I would place this in a file called "test.tex" and run `latex test.tex`. This gives a foo.dvi output file, which I would convert to pdf using `dvipdf foo.dvi `. I'm not sure how you undertake this on Windows, but you need to convert a .tex file to PDF before you start chasing problems with LedgerSMB. Stroller. That didn't work, even using it from command line gives errors. I understand that dvipdf is no longer developed and replaced with dvipdfm or even dvipdfmx, which is the newest and recommended choice. Does anybody know which .pl files in SL directory have these commands? Maybe it would be sufficient to just edit the command there. Or is there anybody out there at all who has got printing and/or creating pdf working on Windows installation? Ghostscript in installed and following your instruction I managed to create a .pdf from the quoted .tex file, the only difference being that the command in my case is not 'dvipdf test.dvi, but 'dvipdfm test.dvi'. I guess I would need to change that somewhere in the SL configuration as well? I just don't know where - the sql-ledger.conf files just says: # if the server can't find gzip, latex, dvips or pdflatex, add the path $ENV{PATH} .= ":/usr/local/bin"; but running dvips or pdflatex from command line seems to work fine. This "magic" is built-in in sql-ledger. There are a number of tokens you can use in the defaults to generate document/customer/vendor/parts numbers. Here is a list from update_defaults procedure in SL/Form.pm # check for and replace # <%DATE%>, <%YYMMDD%>, <%YEAR%>, <%MONTH%>, <%DAY%> or variations of # <%NAME 1 1 3%>, <%BUSINESS%>, <%BUSINESS 10%>, <%CURR...%> # <%DESCRIPTION 1 1 3%>, <%ITEM 1 1 3%>, <%PARTSGROUP 1 1 3%> only for parts # <%PHONE%> for customer and vendors # <%YY%>, <%MM%>, <%DD%>, <%FDM%>, <%LDM%> -- Purpose-built SQL-Ledger Hosting http://www.ledger123.com/ -- |

system -> defaults -> sales invoice/ar transaction number In any of those "last number" fields (sales order, customer, AP Transaction, etc.), you can enter a substitution-capable string which will be used as the next number for that particular item. In your case, if your last invoice number was 2008-005, and you wanted the first one generated to be 2008-006, I believe what you would enter is: 20<%yy%>-005 Then, every time you generate an invoice, SL will use the next number in the sequence. Now, the problem that we are talking about here, is that if the last invoice of 2008 is 2008-099, the next invoice number will be 2009-100, instead of 2009-000 or 2009-001, which would be desirable. Because of this, at the start of your next left hand side incrementation, you must manually reset the right hand side in defaults. Hi Luke Will <%yy%><%mm%> automaticaly be replaced by sql-ledger or do you have some other magic? where do you put that ? into the templates or somewhere in the sql-ledger config? I like to have invoices in the form 2008-001, 2008-002 etc. Until now I enter the invoicenumber by hand, which is somehow anoying. If You or someone else would have a solution to that, that would be very wellcome. Best regards Matthias Luke wrote: > That was ours' as well, when we were using it in production. Be nice if somebody has an answer - we have the same "problem". Our workaround has been to simply set it back to "1" in the system defaults. This is a "how to" question. Currently, we have our invoice, etc., numbers in defaults, setup like this: <%yy%><%mm%>-01 So, the first invoice of 2008, for example, would be: 0801-01 The second would be: 0801-02 Assuming we do not generate any more invoices in January, and do the next one in February (in other words: a failing business:)), the next invoice would be numbered: 0802-03 That last number keeps increasing, and never resets. I would think that there should be a way to make it automatically reset when the base number (in this case the year/month combo) changes. In other words, I want that first February invoice to be numbered: 0802-01 Is there any way to make this happen? Thanks and regards, Luke |

Hi, After countless hours I finally got SL working on Windows server (Win XP + Apache2triad + all those DBD and DBI things), managed to set accounts and record all the activities of past months, when problems occurred where I least expected them - I'm unable to print or save in pdf-format any of the invoices. After several more hours of online search I have proTeXt installed and the pdf+postscript options show nicely in the appropriate pulldown menus, but no actual result - SL simply refreshes the screen as if it's done something or just gives a simple 'Error' message. Has anyone actually got it working under Windows and can suggest how to proceed? Would appreciate any help as I ran out of ideas myself. Best wishes, Kristjan Kaljund |
