Never mind. I just commented out the line that includes xy.sty, but
found that textpos.sty was then missing. I installed texlive-latexextra
and that fixed it.

Look into the defaults table and see what is in the 'version' column
in the database just restored.

I tried upgrading to 2.8.18, but I had lots of problems (the automatic
upgrade scripts didn't work completely), and I didn't like the new
features -- they messed up my established routines for making reports,
doing payroll, etc. So, I went back to 2.6.27, which serves my purposes
fine.

There must be a way to fix this without upgrading.

SL will upgrade the database when any regular user will login first
time after upgrade. There is no need for admin login.

[SL] Big trouble after server crash

The hard disk on my server crashed, and I now notice that the backup
server, which I had thought was mirroring the main server has many, many
duplicated records. (I guess the pg_restore command I was running
automatically wasn't working so well.) When I try to post a transaction
I get this message:

DBD::Pg::db do failed: ERROR: more than one row returned by a subquery
used as an expression

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? A little postgres magic? The
business will grind to a halt unless I can get this going again.

OK, I upgraded to 2.6 which worked and fixed the issue.

I tried to upgrade from 2.6.27 to latest 2.8, which fails with:

how exactly and (more important) with which version should I make that
backup? right now, as I am moving from one server to a new one, I made a
backup with

pg_dump --format=p -c -U postgres <tablename> --file=backup.sql

on the old server, and

psql -U postgres -d tablename -f backup.sql

on the new one.

The forwarding is done inside these scripts.

No. The path is included in the HTTP request.

If you open an existing customer, there are these 2 buttons. If you see 
his address or are able to add a new customer, you are already on ct.pl. 
Add and Update are only subroutines of this script. In this case, the 
problem is that after processing your are not forwarded you to ct.pl 
again. Difficult to say why!

The small steps should be performed automatically. Maybe your db is 
already corrupted now. I suggest to upgrade to 2.8.18, login to Postgres:

path/to/sql-ledger/ct.pl is just a gateway script, the file used is 
path/to/sql-ledger/bin/mozilla/ct.pl

Do you get an error message only when you try to save changes of an 
address, or when you click "Update" or "Save as new", too?
Did you try to update to the actual version 2.8.18?

I have moved a sqlledger v. 2.4.7 from one server to a different one.
nearly everything seems to work, but if I try for example to change the
address of a company, then my changes get saved in the database, but in
the browser, in the main frame, I get

https://path/to/sql-ledger/ct.pl not found

but when I try to load that file from the browsers address line, then it
is found, and I get the "you are logged out" error.

I dont understand that. What am I missing?

I also tried and upgraded to 2.4.16, but the problem persists.

[SL] Some questions regarding orders and invoices

Hello,

Now that I have some initial issues sorted out with regards to SQL-Ledger, I am able to really play around with it.

One thing I have noticed is that when printing an invoice (whether to  PDF, HTML, or printer), the "Description" field above the line items is not included (I am planning to use this as a reminder of what the particular service job was for).  I did edit the LaTeX template to add the "Description" heading, but I do not know the variable to use to actually include the text.  In the template, just above where it has "\textbf{I N V O I C E}", I added the following:

\textbf{Description: } <%description%>
\vspace{1cm}

When I print the invoice, however, I do see the "Description" above the "I N V O I C E" text, as it should be, but the text after it has something like "ARRAY(0x9d49670)" instead of the text I entered in SQL-Ledger.

Does anyone know the variable name I need to use to get that text included?

My second question is regarding order/invoice numbers.  I am wantingto use a variable for order/invoice numbers in the form of YYYYMM-xx, where "YYYY" is the four-digit year, "MM" is the two-digit month, and "xx" is an incremented number starting at 01.  So for example the 5th Sales Order generated for the month of November 2008 would have a number of "200811-05".  In the "System Preferences", I tried putting "YYYMM-01" in for the number, but this of course, creates incremented numbers of YYYYMM-01, YYYYMM-02, etc.  I can, of course, treat that as a placeholder and change YYYYMM" as appropriate on a per order/invoice basis, but if I can use variables for this, that would be better.

Any advice on that greatly appreciated.  Thanks! :-)

If you want to produce an invoice, you sold something it would seem.
If you sold services or goods is neither here nor there.

Apart form the fact that there is no stock for services it is pretty much
the same as goods.
Come to think of it, if you are the only resource and you are fully booked,
you can no more sell services then you could sell laptop computer not
available in stock.

When you add an article, you het the question if it is a goods or a service.
Choice would be obvious. Prepare a service, change / update sales order to
contain the for sale new service article, try again. That should get you
going.  Maybe you should also  check the timecard details, I have not worked
with them yet, but seems logical to suppose there will be a flag for hours
to be either billable or not. Make sure it is billable before trying to
produce a bill.

I am not too sure about it neither as I am not on the latest release.
Typically speaking, you should be able to generate a sales invoice from a
sales order by clicking on the sales invoice button within the sales
order. Remember though, from the sales order report you cannot see the
sales invoice. You can retrieve a sales invoice from the AR Report (If it
was posted).

OK, this is "resolved".  The problem was between the keyboard and chair.  When I did the report and was looking at the order, the order number was a single digit, and I did not realize this was clickable.  Once I did, I went into "System Preferences", and changed the order number to be a 4-digit number with trailing 0's, and it makes it a lot easier to see and notice that it is clickable in the reports :-)

I have some additional questions, but will open a separate thread for those.

That's the thing; after I created the Sales Order from the time card, I cannot open the Sales Order to create the invoice.  I can only list it from a report, and from the report listing I am unable to open it.

Here is the process I went through:

  1.) Created a new project under "Projects > Add Project"
  2.) Created a time card for the project
  3.) Generated a Sales Order:

      b.) Selected the project, clicked "Detail", then "Continue"
      c.) Selected the time card I had just created
      d.) Clicked "Generate Sales Orders"

After the above is where I get stuck.  I cannot see anywhere other than "Order Entry > Reports" to call up the invoice, but when it is called up in the report, I cannot click on it. I am not sure I understand the above?  You mention generating a Purchase Order from a vendor, but I am only doing services, not selling products (I probably did not mention that; I was not sure it was relevant).

Could it be it has been locked? The latest feature a sale order gets
locked if you have tried creating a sales invoice from it.

You want to create a vendor invoice on the AP side. Use the generate
purchase order feature to create a P.O. from the sales invoice. Then you
can create a vendor invoice from the P.O. You also will have to create an
account in both the customer and vendor database. Close the sales order
after you have generated the P.O. We have small number of employees and
that's how they--and myself--get pay.

You managed to open AR and a suitable customer?
Speaking as a bookeeper, without Accounts Receivable you should not be able
to invoice, so if that is the case, there is your answer..

[SL] Cannot create invoice from orders

Hello.

I have just installed the latest version SQL-Ledger on a test system to try out.  I seem to have things running OK.  I created a project, then added a timecard for the project.  I was able to create a sales order from the timecard, but I don not seem to be able to create an invoice from it.

The only way I can see the sales order I created is to go to "Order Entry > Reports > Sales Orders".  This lists the sales order, but I cannot click on it to open it.

OS is CentOS4.4 (all latest updates) and Apache version is 2.0.52.  PostgreSQL is version 7.4.19.

It seems that I am missing something, and it is probably glaringly obvious, though I am still missing it :-(

If you would be able to show me where I need to go to generate the invoice fromt he sales order, that would be great.

[SL] INSTALLATION PROBLEM ON OPENSUSE 11

I need help, I installed sql in opensuse 11, installed it without problems, but when I try to create a new database "linuxbox2008" with Multibyte enconding ASCII, the following mistake takes place:

Error!
FATAL: there does not exist the database  "linuxbox2008Â" 


The alone system allows me to create databases with multibyte encoding UTF8 
I need to solve this problem, since my backups were created from a database by codification ASCII 

Please helpme
