hi omar, its *upgrading* the libraries/packages which may cause problems. on internet facing servers it is necessary to install security updates - and on workstations you obviously want the latest version of apps - but i agree - if the server is a print/file/etc server then it may not need updating and therefore can be left in peace, also - whilst we're on the subject - it is possible to update ALL the packages on a debian m/c with #apt-get update // to update the list of packages and #apt-get upgrade // to fetch, install and configure all packages on the m/c. i've not used RH for a while so i don't know - but - is this possible on RH? kev bailey BTW i know of servers which run these commands every night as a cron job so the servers are always up to date.
