Musing: subscription billing?

I work for a startup which does a lot of subscription billing - $5/month for
this feature, cancel that other one but upgrade to the $20 one, pretty soon
you're talking about some real money.

The problem is that I haven't seen reasonable, inexpensive sofware to handle
and track this and the changes. Would it be worth writing an interface to
sql-ledger to handle this? Or has someone already done it?
