Most open source projects do not stay focused on the basics which is why they fail to produce usable code (Linux-Kontor will *never* compete with or replace SAP R/3... There are design flaws... I'll be surprised if it ever is completed. All that work... And, for what...?...). What it comes down to is you can have the best idea ever thought of regarding a specific product or thing (In this case software), but if you have poor execution, you end up with sh!t and further, look like an idiot. On the other hand, you can take the worst idea on earth and if you have great execution, you look brilliant: Execution *is* everything. SQL-Ledger is an accounting program (And a good one), not a custom application aimed at a specific vertical market. The execution regarding the framework of the application as well as the writing of the code has been excellent: Just look at the product... I am new to this list... But, what originally attracted me to the project was the very fact that Dieter and the others responsible for it's development have remained focused on the basics: In this case, providing a stable and reliable accouting package. There is an API... If people want to add features, well, get busy and write the module(s). Find others on the list who want the same features and get them to help... Best Marvin |
