Here is how the whole thing works: 1. You can edit the account links only if there is no transaction referencing this part. 2. If you use the 'Change up' menu, you can edit the accounts links. However a new part with same part number is created with you save. This might add to the confusion because now there are two parts with same number. 3. You can mark a part obsolete and it will not appear in parts lookups during transaction entry. To mark a part obsolete, its onhand should be zero. You can add a new part again with same part number but with different account links. You can correct the account postings for past transactions for that part using a GL transaction. The 3rd point seems the best way to change any account inaccuracies without mucking around with existing transactions. Hope this helps. Let me know if I am not clear. On our sql-ledger hosting, we can allow the user to change the account links any time he or she likes to. There is a reposting script which, when run, corrects all past transactions.
