Don't know the answer to the first question, but for the second if  
you enter a partial number or description the next Update, (can also  
just hit Enter at the keyboard), will show a list of all possible  
matches so you can choose appropriately.
    And after items are chosen you're returned to the original  
invoice screen to carry on with the rest of it...
