Had this awhile back when we were customizing the invoice layout. Don't remember the exact cause but it ended up being a "special" character which wasn't being escaped properly. It would display fine but when converting to PDF, printing etc the interpreter wasn't happy. As I recall somebody Googled the error and found the cause pretty quickly.
