Ok, simple use case:
Think of a book that always has an author. So the user should not be allowed to set the author to null.

I have several forms here, where I want to enforce that a property is not set to null. So setting a default value and remove the "delete button" seems to be the easiest way.

It seems that you indeed deleted the vldocking directory but didn't add
the new docking dir (in rev 1932). Something must have gone wrong in the
moving (= delete + add with history).

Just for information: you can copy directories from an old revision. If
you deleted something by accident or want to introduce it again in a new
directory, you should be able to do this with something like:

svn copy -m 'undelete my dir'
http://svn.server/repo/myproject/mydeleteddir@1931
http://svn.server/repo/myproject/undeleteddir

note the revision at the end of the first url. This will select the
directory as it was in that revision and copy it to the current trunk at
the destination you provide.

checkout of the revision before you started renaming so that I could 
send you that zip.

That should be possible as well. 

Most bindings have a specific required type, in this case a String. If
you bind a property to such a binding, then it requests a valueModel
with a specific type on the formModel. If the source valueModel (meaning
the first one wrapping the property) has a different type it will ask
the conversion service for a suitable converter to create a converting
valueModel from the source type to the required type and vice versa. So
creating converters in both directions and registering them should do
the trick. Take a look at the DefaultConversionServiceFactoryBean for
more information. There are a few converters registered there that you
can take as a reference.

Looking at the project source it seems like everything is all right now?

Just curious, did you do a 'svn move' or a renaming in your IDE? I think
you could have done a revert to a previous revision or simply check that
revision out, removing the svn metadata and add it back to its proper
location.

You also have to reimplement TextComponentBinding to use your Adapter 
and to set the bytes, i.e. you have to change line 41 like this:

There's a new package:

org.springframework.richclient.application.docking

with subpackages for flexdock and vldocking. I'm going to ask Jonny Wray,
who is maintaining the jide integration, if he can update his code as well.

But since you are reorganising the docking code, I was thinking that it 
made sense to have a top level docking module, with submodules for the 
various docking implementations, e.g. flexdock, jide, vldocking, etc

There is a fair amount of code that could/should be common between 
those, and it will make it easy to switch between docking 
implementations by simply changing the PageFactory, I think.
