[Springframework-developer] CachedIntrospectionResults memory query

Hey guys,

Now this may be a stupid question - so please tell me if it is.

I was doing some memory profiling of Confluence earlier, and I noticed
that for us CachedIntrospectionResults is holding over 2.5 MB of
retained memory. This is only going to grow as more classes etc are
added to the application.

Therefore, I was looking for a way to reduce it's size.

Is it possible to add a flush method to this? What would be the impacts?

>From my understanding, when our application context starts up it will
add a lot of objects to this cache (as the various beans are created),
after that point any cached introspection results there might not be
needed (unless they're used to autowire some other object, or in a
factory style bean).

Therefore would flushing this cache after startup reduce the overall
long term memory usage of the application, with relatively little
other impacts?

At worst case, if all objects in the cache were actually used _after_
startup, the cache would be completely populated twice and each
object's property descriptors would be retrieved twice.

At base case, if all objects in the cache were _never_ used after
startup, the cache would take up no memory for most of the
application's life (beyond startup).

Am I nuts? :)

Hi Mike,

This is an interesting issue... There haven't been any concerns about that
before. We might indeed offer a method to flush that cache, or have some
smart eviction policies based on the kind of object that we introspect. I'll
see what we can do for the upcoming 2.0 RC3.
