Seth,
I've just tried the following on Resin 2.1.11 and Tomcat 5.0.27, and it =
works for me:
<spring:nestedPath path=3D"person">
<%=3D nestedPath %>
<spring:nestedPath path=3D"addresses[0]">
<%=3D nestedPath %>
<spring:bind path=3D"street">
Street: <input type=3D"text" name=3D"<%=3D =
status.getExpression() %>" value=3D"<%=3D status.getValue() %>">
</spring:bind>
<%=3D nestedPath %>
</spring:nestedPath>
<%=3D nestedPath %>
</spring:nestedPath>
Resin doesn't reset the nestedPath variable value to "person." again =
after the end of the inner nestedPath tag, but Tomcat does even that...

Subject: [Springframework-developer] Nested <spring:nestedPath> Tags in
Tomcat 5.0.29
Just a head's up,
It appears that Tomcat 5.0.27 and 5.0.29 (at least) don't support
nested tags of the same type that export the same variable (as defined
in the .tld file).
The Jasper JspC compiler generates Java source code that can't be
compiled. There is a variable that is out of scope of the location
it's being used. I've tried different <variable> <scope>'s just in
case.
Removing the <variable> element from the .tld for the nestedPath tag
fixes the problem. I don't think that element is deprecated quite
yet, but it sounds like it's only there for scriptlets.
I've filed a bug report with Tomcat, so we'll see where that goes.
Any others attempt to use a nested <spring:nestedPath> tag? Any luck?
Thanks,
Seth

Do you have that as an example .war ? I'd like to compare to what I was doing and see what the difference is. Hello, I found out what the problem was, and I still maintain it's a Tomcat bug. Apparently, if you have the body that has <spring:nestedPath> inside (as Juegen has below), and that body is wrapped in a tag implemented as a tagfile, then Tomcat's Jasper Jsp compiler will generate an error. I'm not sure, but I think this scenario is support. I should be able to use <spring:nestedPath> inside a tags. For instance: <tags:myTagFile> <spring:nestedPath> <spring:nestedPath /> </spring:nestedPath> </tags:myTagFile> Will not work with Tomcat/Jasper. Remove the tag files, and it works. Hope this helps others avoid the same problem in the future, Seth On Tue, 7 Dec 2004 12:43:59 +0100, j=FCrgen h=F6ller [ werk3AT ] <jue...@we...> wrote: > Seth, >=20 > I've just tried the following on Resin 2.1.11 and Tomcat 5.0.27, and it w= orks for me: >=20 > <spring:nestedPath path=3D"person"> > <%=3D nestedPath %> > <spring:nestedPath path=3D"addresses[0]"> > <%=3D nestedPath %> > <spring:bind path=3D"street"> > Street: <input type=3D"text" name=3D"<%=3D status.getExpression()= %>" value=3D"<%=3D status.getValue() %>"> > </spring:bind> > <%=3D nestedPath %> > </spring:nestedPath> > <%=3D nestedPath %> > </spring:nestedPath> >=20 > Resin doesn't reset the nestedPath variable value to "person." again afte= r the end of the inner nestedPath tag, but Tomcat does even that... >=20 > Juergen >=20 >=20 >=20 >=20 > -----Original Message----- > From: spr...@li... > [mailto:spr...@li...]On Behalf > Of Seth Ladd > Sent: Tuesday, December 07, 2004 12:37 AM > To: spr...@li... > Subject: [Springframework-developer] Nested <spring:nestedPath> Tags in > Tomcat 5.0.29 >=20 > Just a head's up, >=20 > It appears that Tomcat 5.0.27 and 5.0.29 (at least) don't support > nested tags of the same type that export the same variable (as defined > in the .tld file). >=20 > The Jasper JspC compiler generates Java source code that can't be > compiled.
