I am about to commit some modifications to the JasperReports view 
classes to allow you to control the render format at runtime through a 
model parameter. You can configure exactly how this works, but for the 
most part the default configuration should be okay. Currently the view 
class will only check the model for the correct format to use. I have 
thought about extending the class to have a simple alogrithm whereby it 
checks the model first, then the request parameters before final falling 
back on using the request URI extension to determine the format. Any 
thoughts on this would be appreciated.

I have extended the demo app to show off this new feature. Once the 
feature set is finalised, I will extend the documentation and JavaDocs.
