Burton, If you were talking about scheduling jobs, you should check the wonderful Quartz library here http://www.opensymphony.com/quartz/ . Quartz can be easily integrated with Spring framework. Apologies if there is an easy answer to this, but I am a bit new a Spring. I have somewhat complicated service class that is heavily integrated into my web app (usuing struts 1.6, spring 2.5, jpa, hibernate, tomcat 6). By integrated, I mean it is injected with several dao's, other services, etc. This process is currently run manually by the user started through a web page (or servlet). Now I would like to run this process automatically (each night) presummably from the command line. I am having trouble figuring out how to go about this so that I can access the dao's already setup in the web context without running it via a servlet. I have looked into the remoting capabilities and this seems a bit involved given the simplicity of what I would like to accomplish. I don't really need a "stand-alone" solution (http://static.springframework.org/spring/docs/2.5.x/reference/remoting.html) Is there an easier way to access the webcontext inside the web app from a command line pojo? Or another solution I'm not thinking of for putting a service/utility class on a "timer" inside a web app? Many thanks, Burton |

Apologies if this has been mentioned before (I am new to this list).
One comment, in 2.5.6, I loaded the source code into ECLIPSE 2.5.6
using a JDK 1.6.0_12, and after attempting to load all of the libraries required
to the classpath to allow all source code to compile cleanly, one off the source files
still doesn't compile:
org.springframework.transaction.jta/WebSphereUowTransactionManager.java
I wrote a little script to search all of the lib/*/*.jar files for external
references for the missing class that is being referenced, and it appears that
none of those lib/*/*.jar files contains the missing class that is referenced
by the import line.
Class affected:
org.springframework.transaction.jta/WebSphereUowTransactionManager
Error message:
The import com.ibm.websphere cannot be resolved WebSphereUowTransactionManager.java spring-framework-2.5.6/src/org/springframework/transaction/jta line 23 Java Problem
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PS: here is the script that I used to create a big text file of
jar files and classes within that jar (I had to use an intermediate
text file (tmp.junk) because of a bug in the version of sh.exe
that runs on my computer - a very old version from MKS ).
I ran this script to see all of the classes defined in all of the
third party *.JAR files that Spring 2.5.6 uses.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# big.sh
# used to find out which jar file contains which class.
# Example: I was researching JTA, and wondered if
# a JSE app can use JTA or not.
# ==============================================
for jar in */*.jar
do
echo === $jar ===
jar tf $jar | grep class$ >tmp.junk
while read line; do echo $jar:$line; done <tmp.junk
rm tmp.junk
done
I ran above script as follows:
sh big.sh >big.txt
Sample output from above script (first 10 lines of output):
C:\DownLoads\SPRING_2.5.6\spring-framework-2.5.6\lib>uhead big.txt

I downloaded the source for 2.5.6 and was looking at it.
It appears that the build.xml doesn't create a ZIP file of the source code.
Having a source zipe would be advantageous for debugging within ECLIPSE
for "stepping into spring library source code", or learning the secrets
of the spring source code.
I suggest to add the following target to build.xml for the next release.
(and side question: shouldn't the spring.jar file be named spring.2.5.6.jar
and so the src zip file should be src.spring.2.5.6.zip ??)
============================================================
<target name="srczip" description="builds a ZIP file of ALL source code for spring.jar">
<echo message="Creating src.spring.zip file"/>
<delete file="${dist.dir}/src.spring.zip"/>
<!-- make folder for output ZIP file if folder not present -->
<mkdir dir="${dist.dir}"/>
<zip
destfile="${dist.dir}/src.spring.zip"
basedir="src"
includes="**/*.java"
/>
</target>

I can't find what is the mapping between attribute intercept-url access and field of MySQL table authorities.authority. If I have in config: <intercept-url pattern="/secure/**" access="IS_AUTHENTICATED_REMEMBERED" /> then in my table is: 'user1', 'IS_AUTHENTICATED_REMEMBERED' I use spring-security-samples-tutorial-2.0.4 and trying to get user from DB but login fail and there is no message from SPRING_SECURITY_LAST_EXCEPTION.message(which class put this in PageContext??) My opinion is especially for beginners that examples of config should be more explicitly. In documentation http://static.springsource.org/spring-security/site/reference/html/authentication-common-auth-services.html#jdbc-service <bean id="dataSource" class="org.springframework.jdbc.datasource.DriverManagerDataSource"> <property name="driverClassName" value="org.hsqldb.jdbcDriver"/> <property name="url" value="jdbc:hsqldb:hsql://localhost:9001"/> <property name="username" value="sa"/> <property name="password" value=""/> </bean> <bean id="userDetailsService" class="org.springframework.security.userdetails.jdbc.JdbcDaoImpl"> <property name="dataSource" ref="dataSource"/> </bean> But you can't included in applicationContext-security.xml (schema error) so how to bind this whit authentication-provider and then I search i9n doc how to connect this userDetailsService and authentication-provider. I try this: <authentication-provider> <jdbc-user-service data-source-ref="userDetailsService"/> </authentication-provider> but getting error: org.springframework.beans.TypeMismatchException: Failed to convert property value of type [org.springframework.security.userdetails.jdbc.JdbcDaoImpl] to required type [javax.sql.DataSource] for property 'dataSource'; nested exception is java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Cannot convert value of type [org.springframework.security.userdetails.jdbc.JdbcDaoImpl] to required type [javax.sql.DataSource] for property 'dataSource': no matching editors or conversion strategy found So this example is misleading. It would be much easier if the documentation specified explicitly how to use mysql. Regards, Tomaz |

I'm beginner of struts and I wont to use spring sec:
1) I won't to use MySQL for back end auth, I create two tables(authorities, users) but my configuration doesn't work.
What is spring configuration and tables in Mysql or how to have custom authentication-provider?
If I try this
<authentication-provider>
<password-encoder hash="md5"/>
<user-service>
<user name="rod" password="a564de63c2d0da68cf47586ee05984d7" authorities="ROLE_SUPERVISOR, ROLE_USER, ROLE_TELLER" />
</user-service>
</authentication-provider>
it works, but if I try this
<authentication-provider>
<jdbc-user-service data-source-ref="dataSource" authorities-by-username-query="select username,authority from users where username=?"/>
</authentication-provider>
it doesn't work, what I'm doing wrong??
2) Is there any way to inject user as authenticated?
In my login page I get user as authenticated(using shibboleth SP which put user and his attributes in HTTP header) and spring controlling the rest of
pages, how to say spring that user is authenticated.
Regards, Tomaz

Hello everyone,
I am having some problems useing Spring.AjaxEventDecoration in Webflow
when i have multiple forms on one View.
Here is an example of what i have:
Code:
<form:form name="test_form1" id="test_form1"
modelAttribute="contentEntry">
<input type="hidden" name="_eventId" value="test1" />
<input type="button" name="test1" id="test1" value="Test-Button
1"/>
</form:form>
<form:form name="test_form2" id="test_form2"
modelAttribute="contentEntry">
<input type="hidden" name="_eventId" value="test2" />
<input type="button" name="test2" id="test2" value="Test-Button
2"/>
</form:form>
Spring.addDecoration(new Spring.AjaxEventDecoration({
elementId : "test1",
event : "onclick",
formId: "test_form1",
params : { fragments : 'content'}
}));
Spring.addDecoration(new Spring.AjaxEventDecoration({
elementId : "test2",
event : "onclick",
formId: "test_form2",
params : { fragments : 'content'}
}));
Problem is that even though something is sent the transition in the flow
isnt called and i dont know why.
If i do it like the following, the transition is called but i have no
way to determin which form is submitted its just takeing the first it
finds.
Code:
<form:form name="test_form1" id="test_form1"
modelAttribute="contentEntry">
<input type="hidden" name="_eventId" value="test1" />
<input type="button" name="test1" id="test1" value="Test-Button
1"/>
</form:form>
<form:form name="test_form2" id="test_form2"
modelAttribute="contentEntry">
<input type="hidden" name="_eventId" value="test2" />
<input type="button" name="test2" id="test2" value="Test-Button
2"/>
</form:form>
Spring.addDecoration(new Spring.AjaxEventDecoration({
elementId : "test1",
event : "onclick",
formId: "contentEntry",
params : { fragments : 'content'}
}));
Spring.addDecoration(new Spring.AjaxEventDecoration({
elementId : "test2",
event : "onclick",
formId: "contentEntry",
params : { fragments : 'content'}
}));
Hanyone have some hints for me on what i am doing wrong or if its even
possible to do this?
Thx a lot in advance!
Wolfgang

Hi,
In the usage of the AOP , we found that with the proxy class usign CGLIB
with contructor arg - a exception throw with
"org.springframework.aop.framework.AopConfigException". Checking the source
code and the testcases(Version 2.5.6) and found that Spring actually doesn't
support it. Is that means Spring not encourage this use cases or it is a
missing functionality? - it sounds tricky, can any one help to clarify it ?
Thanks your time so much!
Tracing code in the Cglib2AopProxy line197:
if (this.constructorArgs != null) {
proxy = enhancer.create(this.constructorArgTypes,
this.constructorArgs);
}
else {
proxy = enhancer.create();
}
it is the exception occurred.
And by trace the use of the Cglib2AopProxy.setConstructorArguments - It is
only called in the testcases instead of production code. Does it means when
use don't permit to AOP those class with arg constructor directly?
public void testWithNoArgConstructor() {
1. NoArgCtorTestBean target = new NoArgCtorTestBean("b", 1);
2. target.reset();
3.
4. mockTargetSource.setTarget(target);
5. AdvisedSupport pc = new AdvisedSupport(new Class[]{});
6. pc.setTargetSource(mockTargetSource);
7. Cglib2AopProxy aop = new Cglib2AopProxy(pc);
8. aop.setConstructorArguments(new Object[] {"Rob Harrop", new
Integer(22)},
9. new Class[] {String.class, int.class});
10. NoArgCtorTestBean proxy = (NoArgCtorTestBean) aop.getProxy();
11. proxy = (NoArgCtorTestBean) aop.getProxy();
12.
13. assertNotNull("Proxy should be null", proxy);
14. }
