I removed the scripts and opted to have a manifest with a classpath in the sample jars. 

In short the release zip contains (among others):
lib/ -> all jars
samples/ -> main jars for samples (also in lib/)

The jars in the samples/ dir are all executable and include a classpath refering to '../lib/XXX.jar'
