The implementations StatusBar and ProgressMonitor mostly are graphical components. I would expect us to give a decent default behavior (hence the borders etc) and let the user override it when needed. I'm not sure how you want this to be configurable and why you would prefer this over implementing or extending the current ones. Can you enlighten me by showing where you're heading at?
